Finding Leak Advice, Estimate for Repair? Pond Liner.

We have a small pond about 4000L that has developed a leak. Shut the pump and filter down and water still goes down after a refill. Leak has to be in the liner somewhere. Liner is about 14 years old and loses half the contents in less than a week. It always falls to the same level everytime we refill it, so naturally the hole would be on the water line. Having a disability I cannot get down that far to find and repair the whole/tear. Would it be a big job? And would anyone have a rough estimate on cost to have somebody repair it? Thank you so much.

is it a fully in ground pond or half and half,my old pond years back was half in half out and got a leak, always dropped to same height halfway down, the hole was actually in a corner on bottom but water was dropping to ground level as the soil couldnt hold anymore, probably a couple hundred for a new liner and start again, much easier than a patch, andi

As the liner is 14 years old id replace with new.
Where do you live and maybe someone on here can recommend someone local to replace it.
Its not gonna be a quick job. probably take a couple of people a weekend to do

A patch could be done quite cheaply but the best option would be a new liner, if its lasted 14 years its done well

You could speak to your local fish shop, they may know someone in the area

i had a inground pond on my last pond. replaced twice over 22 years. i drained mine and just laid the new liner over the one below. so when I had my new pond built. had 3 liners to remove. worked did the business.
mine was self inflicted damage. couple of bricks dropped in to the pond. By me

This is probably the cause of our leak, knocked a concrete koi statue in it sometime ago, the odd rock too over the years.

Had an estimate for someone to just remove fish, lay new liner over the top and put fish back, we was talking ridiculous money. It's not a big pond and the slabs around the sides are just laid in place. Will have to get my brother to come over and do it for us. When I was in better health we had it dug out, mind you it was an extension to an ever smaller pond, in a weekend and pretty much all set up.

Update: With the pond being half full for these last couple of weeks, and not having the filter running 24/7 for the first time in nearly 15 years I thought it best to get it all started up again and top the water up. Amazingly the water level has not dropped at all in 4 days now. I know its a slow leak can only presume the ground is either too water logged or the algae on the sides has blocked the tiny hole. Fish are loving being able to swim the entire pond again. Long may it continue until the warmer weather for me brother to replace the liner.

One thing I've tried to locate the hole is going along the pond perimeter with a bamboo cane sticking it in the ground, hoping to find an area with wetter soil I suppose. Thought I was just being daft until hearing a slurp sound when pulling the cane out of the ground in just one small area. In the meantime and out of a sense to investigate I will see if we can find the said hole in that area.

Be careful with the water parameters if the filter has been switched off for a period as it harbours all the good bacteria that break down the ammonia and nitrite and this may have died off when you switched it off.

If you're local to me in the South East and have a good idea of approximately where the leak is I'd happily pop round and patch it up for you just to keep it going till funds allow a replacement liner.
