    Miltibay

Hi everyone I have had my pond for about 3 years now I ran it with a diy gravity fed filter built with a vortex and compartments with block rendered and sealed it's performed great but it's a nightmare to clean with only one drain
I have noticed lately the water quality is deteriorating fast ie green from about a foot down I have 4 goldfish about 6 inches and 4 koi about the same which have only been in about 6 months
The pond is 2600 gallons with a waterfall
I have just bought a klk 12000v multibay filter which is all I am allowed to spend at the moment I intend to change the filter to brushes in the vortex and the 3 bays jap matting
My problem is I have a submersible pump which I don't really want to change
Is it possible to add a barrel or container after the multibay just to accommodate the pump with a bit of extra filtration on top or do i have to place it in the last chamber of the multibay the exit if the multibay is only 1and a half inches
    Thank you for your help

yeah no reason you cant do that, as long as you have big enough pipe work to get sufficient flow.

You would need to upgrade the pipework - no way would you be able to pull enough through a 1.5" pipe. Are you sure your pump isn't dry mountable - many are - most of the superfish ones for instance.

Either keep it in the last bay or get one you can dry mount if you don't want to take a hole saw to your filter.
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Have you got a uv filter?
Does the pump not currently flow to the water fall, would that not still be the case? How is it piped at the moment?
I have a 12000 and am planning to add a 120lt barrel, about £ 22 of eBay. That will be 4" from the multi to the barrel, you can get a curved tank connecter of eBay for a tenner. From there pumped back to pond or up to a shower, still playing with ideas.

Hi Simon that's exactly what I was thinking a 4 inch connector from the multibay to a 120 litre barrel that would hold my pump it would also give me an extra chamber of filtration in the multibay and I could then put the plastic media that came with it in the barrel I just need the courage now to drill the hole !!

Start with the barrel, if that goes wrong not to painful.
Then with added skill set confidence progress to the multi.
If it's a drilled hole you might struggle to widen an existing hole as there's nothing for the central bit to sit in.
Probably easier with a suitable saw.

Would it be possible to stitch drill it with a drill and then cut it out just a thought I'm a builder but never cut fibreglass

Hi Chris, You could stitch drill it and then cut it out with a pad saw or jig saw,if using the tank connector there is a large flange on them so a bit of Le-way there.
Fiberglass cuts very easily but may need a bit of sanding and lots of silicone on the cut edge, good lock.
