I went out to feed the fish early and thought I could hear running water only to find that the connector on the top up system had come off the side of water filter fitting. I refitted it and gave it a check and it came off again so now I have to sort that out. That finer filters thing has given me nothing but problems from day one and it has never stopped leaking either. What a pile of shit. Will order another proper Vyair one from today as I'm fed up with with it now.

Someone asked me for some photos of the waste outlet and set up of the QT so I've added some more photos -
1st & 2nd Photos are just showing the set up.
3rd to 6th Photos are showing the waste outlet.

1st Photo - old waste outlet 1.5" FTC fitted to bottom of the barrel.
2nd & 3rd Photos - cover plate and spacers - only showing 2 of 4 screws and 2 spacers on each screw just so they don't get lost.
4th & 5th Photos - internals of barrel with FTC removed.
6th Photo - centre pipe marked up ready to have slots cut out of it when I feel brave enough to risk using the angle grinder. Got to get a 3mm cutting disc as I only have 1mm discs at the moment.

Last 3 photos for now.
1st Photo - centre pipe ready to be slotted with the grinder and I hope my measurements are correct and the water level in the filter is going to be some where near the 2.5" mark?
2nd Photo - showing the size of the hole in bottom of the barrel.
3rd Photo - showing the outer diameter of 1.5" pressure pipe.

Look at all those rubber connectors, they must have cost about the same as the tank!

What I am thinking about doing for the BD of the barrel is -
Drill out the existing hole in the bottom of the barrel to clearance a bit of 1.5" pressure pipe.
Fit a 1.5" pressure pipe FTC and use some PU18 to seal it.
Cut a bit of 1.5" pressure pipe about 6" to 8" long.
Fit a flexi rubber boot end cap on one end of the pipe.
Drill 6mm holes in the pressure pipe.
Push the pressure pipe into the FTC but not glue it in place as it may need to be removed in the future.
If I am correct and get it done as I hope to it should act as a grill to let water and muck through it and keep the K1 in the filter.

I know what you mean but I needed to make it possible to strip down and move without having strange shaped pipe work to mess around with. What I should have done is on the slide vales and ball valves is fit a short bit of pipe into the unions both sides and that way I could have used couplers not reducers to connect them up. The 4" to 3" reducers look a bit dubious as they are pulling in a lot and at strange angles too

That's what I was hoping John
I would order the fittings up and was wondering if I would get past their minimum order to not pay delivery - no worries there with all those 3" and 4" bits
I still need a few more bits I think as the return to the tank has to be altered as firstly I think it may be too high and secondly I only have a 45 degree bend on the end of it at the moment.
Was thinking maybe replace the elbow with 2 x 45s to give it a bit move of a sweeping 90 and then sort out the end over the tank. Maybe a 45 out then a 90 down or maybe a 45 out and then another 45 to level it and go into the tank near the back right hand corner? Just need to keep clear of the top of the Eazy Pod if I drop the pipe work down and go the route I have just mentioned?
Also if I drop the pipe work down a little bit I can stick the controls etc just above the pipe and they will be at a reasonable height to access?

Aeration questions.
I may have already asked this but can't remember the answers now.
Do it need to add aeration to the QT or only if using medication or similar? I know the Eazy Pod and barrel filter are aerating the water anyway but some times meds or water treatments require additional aeration.
As I am using an air pump to boil the K1 in the barrel filter can I use the same pump to boil the K1 in the Eazy Pod for cleaning if swapped between the two filters as the barrel could have the aeration turned off for a few minutes while cleaning the Eazy Pod couldn't it? Saves having 2 pumps. Just thought a 2 way manifold with control valves on could be used to work both filters as required?

I've got a Secoh? 40 lpm air pump which apparently is more powerful than most other 40 lpm air pumps as it is rated to deliver 40 lpm at a depth of 1m and not just at surface level so should be more than enough to run the barrel and clean the Eazy Pod but not at the same time though

I don't have air in my one and the O2 has been fine though I have a shower, I'd say if you had the return above water rather than below it would be better for degassing and such and add enough extra O2. Turning the air off of the moving bed to clean the pod will be fine mate. Must be nearly water time if your thinking about air !!

Another thing while I'm on the returns, even though these tanks are benched it doesn't mean much, I had some muck on the bottom running a 5000lph so I bought a 10000 variable but found that was too powerful and the water wasn't as clean so I aimed the return to hit the side so there was a circular flow in the tank and turned the pump down, clean water and no muck on the bottom was the result

I have got a little twin outlet aquarium air pump kit with hose and air stones that I could use if required?

I have ordered hopefully the last lot of bits I need for the plumbing, another 10" Vyair filter and a floating thermometer for the QT.
What do you think?
