Need to look on Amazon or Screwfix again

My hooks turned up but they were too small to fit over the top of the QT. The widest bit of the hook is only about 38 mm and I need somewhere around 50 mm I think

Correction - I need 55 mm to fit over the box section on the top of the QT.

I have found some that should fit on Amazon but they won't be turning up until mid April !!!

I think this looks like a job for the Google expert Andi Koi LOL as I recon it's easier to find hen's teeth or rocking horse shit than large s shaped hooks

    Water levels and height question.

As I'm used to running a pump fed system and haven't had any experience with gravity fed systems but I understand the basics of them - how do I judge the height of my filters so the water levels are correct through out? With the Eazy Pod do I use the top of the centre return pipe as the correct level as with my pumped system that's basically as high as the water ever gets unless I put the cleaning tube in?

This is what I was thinking -

The left hand side is where it shows the water level on the EA website and the right hand side is where I thought it should be.

OK so I may have the centre return pipe a little bit low in the drawings but I am fairly sure it's not up as high as where EA say the water level should be.

Hi Frim, you want the level to be as the first pic.

I have a Oase drum / bio combo. I measured the water level in the pond and then created a platform for the filter so the top of the filter was about 30 mm above the water line.

The pond water level is your fixed point. Use that to work out where you want the water level in the filter to be then adjust your filter platform to get this height.

Dont worry about where the inlet pipe is. The water in the filter will always be the same height as the water in the pond.

Not the best explanation but I understand it.

OK thanks. Looking at that level being just under the bottom of the lip on the top of the main body of the Pod does that mean that the water level is over the top of the over flow level and if so is the over flow only required for the Pod if it's pump fed?

I had a look at my pump fed Pod earlier and it looks like the overflow system is below the specified water level in the left hand picture.

What I was planing on doing was to build a platform out of blocks and bricks (not cemented together) with a 2ft x 2ft slab on top of it and then work out the water level from there. As I also have to do the same thing with the barrel filter I wanted to be able to play around with the heights of the platforms as required. Obviously got to try to get the platform heights as near as possible to get the water in the tank as high as I think it should be or I could end up with the water level in the tank level right up to the top of the box section virtually as high as it can possibly be or 6" down from the top of the tank - neither of which is going to be a good idea is it?

    Hi Frim,

If you cant measure your pond water level from your filter area as it might be a distance away use a water level. A piece of clear hose filled with water.

    Water Level

You can make one out of a hose pipe with clear tubing at each end. Have one end in pond with clear tube out of water and the other end at you filter area attached to a wall. Slowly fill with water and when the water in the tube is level with the water in your pond, the other end will have the same water level. Mark this on your wall and that will give you your pond water level in your filter area.

Measuring the water level isn't going to be an issue as the filters are going to be right next to the QT in the garage.

All I wanted to know was how high the water needed to be in the Eazy Pod when it is being fed via a gravity system as my current Eazy Pod is pump fed so is only as full as the top of the centre return pipe. Thank you for answering my question in your earlier reply. As I am making the platform for the filters out of bricks and blocks etc as a temporary set up the chances of getting the heights of the filters spot on is very unlikely so what I will have to do is have the water level in the filters dictate the water level in the QT if that makes sense? If I was to be doing a permanent job of it I would build a wooden framework and have both the filters at the perfect height and then could have the water at the level I wanted in the QT.

Not used a water level for about 30 years but know how they work. Simple but effective

Here you go frim some photos of my water height.
    Hope these help gravity feed.

If you look on last photo in centre.
    Just below overflow.
And the outer chamber about about
    1/8th to a 1/4 inch for flow . Circulation
    Below over flow

Thanks Fred, that's more where I expected it to be as the level shown on the EA website looks far too high as it would be up above the bottom of the overflow system.

Will have a proper look at the photos later when I am on the laptop as I can't see too much on my phone.

Does the water level change at all as in when the pump is running or when it has stopped Fred?

That level was with my pump running lol
.so long as your water is just under
The overflow plates. And moves around. Your ok.
Obviously if its into the plates the
Water will not go around and around
And you lose your vortex affect.
So like i said a 1/8th inch clearance under plate your laughing
Mine is actually a little higher. Maybe by about 1/8th of an inch.
Reason i allow for water loss for condensation. But it works great.

Thanks Fred, that makes sense as I thought if it is over the overflow level then muck would be bypassing the filter but just wasn't sure how it worked gravity over pumped.

I was like yourself mate. Had 2 x easypods on my first pond. One each side of pond. Each with own pump in the pond. So pump fed.
Then when i had my qt built. Went gravity feed.
With pod. I was scratching my napper. Working it all out. But got there in the end.

Top up system is still giving me grief lol

Went out this morning and there was a big damp patch on the slabs below it

Tried playing around with the seals from the old filter, got 2 cold showers, put it all back together with a large cat litter tray underneath it and tightened the fittings on the incoming side of the filter, got another cold shower and turned it back on. Not sure if the water that is coming off it now is a leak or just residual water from the top of the filter running down it.
