OK I see - so the pump is getting a better water supply from the barrel as lifting the pump up may restrict the water supply to it?
So if the outlet of the barrel filter is coming out horizontally about 4" or 6" from the bottom of the barrel and it looks like to get the levels right I may have to raise the barrel up a reasonable amount anyway plus there will be the waste outlet coming out of the bottom of it via a 1.5" FTC and 90 degree flexi rubber boot elbow, the pump would still be best sitting on the floor even if that meant having 2 x 90 degree elbows or 2 x 45 degree bends plus a 4" to 1.5" reducer to get down to the floor and connect onto the pump or would it be better to go straight into the pump using a reducer and short bit of pipe?
As the step down in sizes is so big between the barrel filter's outlet and the pump would it be better to go from 4" to 1.5" in stages to help the flow to the pump or as the pump is going to be basically pulling the water from the barrel to itself aided by gravity of course, does it make any difference? OK I know you can't technically pull water you can only push water but you know what I mean hopefully?
If I am using rubber boots I could try one way first and if it doesn't work as I want it to then try the other way?
I can get one side and one end against the wall if I get rid of the stuff in the corner of the garage.
Just not sure if I would get away with adding any height to the tank as I am struggling to reach over it at the moment as it's nearly 4ft high so that's just under armpit height for me.

Just noticed that the outlet of your last barrel is 1.5" or 2" unfortunately mine is 4" I think as that's how Ant made it so I have to reduce down to 1.5" to connect onto my pump. So is it better to go straight from 4" to 1.5" or should I do it in stages?

Got attacked twice last night whilst I was in the garage.
The flange part of the ball valve that is held onto the valve with a large nut type thing is already glued onto a length of 3" pressure pipe and the locking ring is still on the pipe. I keep forgetting that the locking ring isn't captive on the flange and I picked up the pipe a couple of times last night and the locking ring slid down the pipe, went over the top of my thumb and hit the first joint on my thumb each time. The thing is the locking ring manages to stay on the flange long enough for me to lift the pipe up to vertical and then drops down the pipe. By the time it has reached my thumb it is moving surprisingly fast and it's not light either so I did say oh bother or something like that each time I did it as it was quite painful.
Knew I was having a bad day the day before but didn't realise it was happening again the day after as well.

Thanks Fred.
I suppose with the pump sitting as low as possible the pressure gained due to the head of water will be feeding the pump faster than it can actually pump so the 4" to 1.5" drop in pipework isn't going to be an issue and if it is I can just add the extra reducers to sort it out should I need to in the future. As the pump is only going to be a 3000 or 3500 lph pump the flow from the barrel to the tank isn't going to be a problem hopefully.

Just remembered the pump for the tank isn't a 3000 or a 3500 lph it's a 10000 lph variable speed pump I think so I can have a play around with the flow rate as required.

The bottom drain doesnt come out too far mate, thats a 4 inch pipe as close as you can get it

OK thanks for that mate. I've got 3" pressure pipe so will be even less than that I think. I think I checked it before and found that the pipe I intend to use sits on the floor in the gap between the tank and the wall with the tank tight against the wall. The only thing I have got to check is, will the ball valve be an issue with the evil locking rings lol if the pipe runs along the back of the tank? If the pipe runs along the front of the tank the ball valve is going to be in the middle of the floor between the tank and the Eazy Pod so will be more likely to get knocked than if it is running along the back wall?
Your system is in the corner and you have a bigger garage than I have so I need to keep the pipes out of the way as much as possible unless I can get a raised floor installed which has its own issues with space etc. I like the idea of the pipe running along the front of the tank for access etc. Annoyingly if the outlet of the BD had been pointing the way I had asked for then the pipe would have run under the tank and not been an issue as much as it might be now.

You will probably find that my 3" ball valve is as big as externally as your 4" gate valve is specially if you take into account the killer locking rings lol
Nothing has been decided yet and probably won't be until I try to attach the pipe to the BD which will hopefully be in the next couple of days lol

thats why i didnt go for a ball valve on the vat, they are much to big in 3 and 4 inch for my liking, and as its not in the closed position all of the time any possible leaking isnt an issue

I think I may need to temporarily raise the tank up a bit to give me a bit more room to work on connecting the pipe to the BD. I think a breeze block underneath each foot of the tank should be OK space wise as I will have to raise the Eazy Pod and barrel filter up anyway so the blocks won't be wasted once the tank is back on the floor again.
