Wow 66 Pages into Frims quarantine tank build thread.

This tank must be amazing, but I can't find any pictures since page 12, well none of Frims anyway, but lots of Freddies.

What's the latest Frim? Have you fiberglassed your house instead and still waiting for it to fill up?

I don't think my build thread will be this long and I need to build the filter area larger to accommodate the QT tank.

    Sorry Frim couldn't resist.

Just remember you lot - revenge is a dish best served cold LOL

Yes I know it will be the next ice age by the time I get this thing finished so it will be that cold it will be frozen solid Hopefully I'll remember to drain down my top up system so I won't have to buy another new one due to the ice killing it off again!!!

I am going to extend my garage 3ft in length to get my shower inside,it will be well finished before Frim starts his,and Andi has built a new pond in the meantime.
Think someone needs to let Frim know the fibreglass is well dry on his tank now and he can make a start.

Are you sure it's dry as it's been very cold recently down here John? LOL

Actually I did sort of do some work on it today - I took the cellophane wrapping off of the adaptable box that the heater controller is going to be mounted in and checked to see if it was going to fit with the DIN rail mounted inside it. I didn't bother taking any photos of it as my phone is playing up at the moment.

Mine were up and asking for food this morning so I thought I'd chuck a couple of bits in and see if they would eat it - they did. Not what you'd call a feeding frenzy but they were fighting each other for it a bit but the fight was in slow motion LOL

It's been not too bad down here today and this morning when I tried them with some food it was somewhere between 6 and 10 degrees C outside but felt not that cold so maybe the water was a bit warmer?

From what I could see they all looked OK and it was good to see they were all after the food and the first one up was a green tench which is normally quite wary so must have been hungry LOL The golden tench were more nervous but the rest of the koi were not bothered even when the cat was walking round the edge of the pond watching them.

I was under the impression that tench were slow growing fish but the green tench I have seems to be growing quite quickly as it's younger than the 3 golden tench but is twice the size of the biggest one of those. Maybe because it hasn't been bred to be an unnatural colour like the golden ones have been?

Had a look in the garage yesterday and was having a bit of a measure up with the view to moving the tank so it sits 90 degrees to where it currently is but this means if it sits tight in the back corner it's going to be over hanging the door way to the shed so have ruled out that idea. One thing I have realised is, at the moment the outlet of the BD is pointing towards the back of the tank which may be an issue later on should I get a leak. So I need to turn it 180 degrees so the outlet points towards the front of the tank. I think the tank will turn on the spot so no need to remove it from the garage, spin it and put it back in again as this will require removing almost everything from the garage where as spinning it if it is possible just requires moving a few things out of the way. The problem with having the pipe running along the front of the tank is the pipe work will be susceptible to being stepped on so I may need to make a bit of a raised walkway to go over it.

I'd stick with the outlet at the back.

In my mind to have all that "ugly" pipework at the front as a trip hazard and potentially in the way is far worse than the very small risk that one day you might get a leak that will be difficult to access.
A leak would probably require draining the tank regardless, so again, id leave the drain as it is and have the pipework at the back.

Anyway, this thread should be moved to the non koi chat section as we're now 67 pages in and at this rate there's little hope of ever seeing a single koi! Quarantine build and set up

    Non Koi section lol

Anyway there is somethings in it now, 3 spiders and a dead wasp

OK I see what you are saying about the trip hazard etc so will see if the existing pipe that's got the bend and ball valve on is long enough so that the valve isn't going to be sitting behind the tank making it hard to get at.

Result!!! The length of the existing pre made up 3" pipework comes out well past the end of the tank so much so that the Eazy Pod could be mounted on the right hand side of the tank with the barrel filter sitting between it and the tank with the BD pipework running under it. Another option is to sit the Eazy Pod and barrel filter far enough over past the right hand side of the tank so it leaves me with enough space to get between them both and the tank for cleaning etc?

I may need to get either another 4" to 3" flexi rubber boot reducer or a 3" flexi rubber boot coupler to connect the end of the BD pipework to the Eazy Pod.

Does it make any difference to have the pump sitting on the floor after the barrel filter so it pumps up and over the top of the tank or have the pump sitting level or nearer to the top of the tank?

    Haha nice one Anne.

    You rude? As if lol

Now the weather is starting to pick up a bit it is going to help give me a bit more incentive to get back out there and sort it out as due to the lack of space in the garage things may have to be moved outside and then back again before I can start and once I have finished for the day.

You don't realise how much stuff you accumulate in a relatively short length of time.

When I get round to filling the tank up, how far from the top of the tank is a safe distance down? 4"? 6"? Obviously it needs to allow for a reasonable amount of surface movement hasn't it. To stop escapees I am going to make some sort of frame with a net, plus will have to have a lid of some kind to help keep the heat in along with putting insulation round the tank including the underneath too.

My water level is 2 inch from top of tank.
I ended up putting a guard up.
3 sides where against the wall. One side open. So put 9 inch guard on.

Also all my pumps are on the floor for pond and QT tank
