yes
it was suggested to you to keep low quality fish in it, theres no need. It is also a bad idea to have it connected to your main pond, with the best will in the world there is still an increased possibility of direct contamination from the sickbay and the main pond if pipes are connected. keep it separate and isolated same with nets etc, though at least those you can sterilise in the same way you can with the used media between patients/additionsthe slow pond build thread

Fred, just had a read through your build thread and it was well worth it as it has helped me some ideas. Great build BTW and I hope you have closed the lids on your waterproof sockets now LOL

OK thanks for clarifying your reply much appreciated.
As things are in the very early design stages at the moment any thoughts and ideas will be taken into account and I understand your concerns about having it separate from the main pond which makes perfect sense.
The problem I have got at the moment with regards to maturing the extra media is my current filter is an Eazy Pod so there isn't enough room to put any more bagged up K1 in it I don't think so that's why I thought about maybe linking the two systems on a temporary basis then once everything's up and running remove the link as basically it would just be something like an overflow system and an additional pump. But then again as the fish I would like to get in it ASAP isn't infected with anything regular water testing and small water changes will help to keep on top of things until the system matures as a stand alone quarantine set up which is probably easiest and safest all round?.

OK so I think this is how it stands at the moment on the planning front -
Stand alone system
Some sort of tank, preformed, IBC, boxlined frame etc ?????
Bottom drain
Sieve
Blue barrel filter
Pump
UVC
Some sort of heater
I'm assuming it will need aeration right?
Air pump - not sure on size but maybe something like a 80 lpm so it could run the blue barrel filter air line and the airstone in the tank
Air stone
Obviously there's pipework and fittings but I'll think more about those as I get the main parts confirmed.
Would it be better to have an air stone in the tank or an aerated bottom drain?

yes, but then if you have blitzed it you can re add it to the ponds filter and be sure to not add anything to the main pond. once its back in contact it will start to host the organisms needed next time you wish to set up the quarantine, failing that you could feed the filter ammonia, but this just saves you having to have the system running if not required.
some treatments will cause a hit on the filter, so if space allows having a few bags of media on the go should mean you always have some ready if you notice the filters knocked back post treatment.the slow pond build thread

Is there a minimum size I should be looking for?
I've just realised that if it's a preformed vat it's got to be able to either go through an outside door or maybe if it's a bit bigger through the single garage door which means a hell of a lot of clearing out of the garage will be required - anyone got a spare week? lol
Going to have a look at what's available and get the tape measure out.

500g, this will give you enough water and space for koi to not be cramped, about time you cleared the garage anyway hahaha, andi

I've just found something fairly close to that at 472 gallons but it isn't free standing and it's £500.00

It looks like anything anywhere near 500 gallons is going to have to go through the garage door as it is far too big to go through a standard sized side door.
Looks like it might be a case of clearing a space and seeing what will fit after that.

Where do you find all these places Andi? LOL I've looked for ages and find very little then come on here and see you've posted a link for something that I'd never have found if I'd looked all week LOL.
You beat me to it with your last post as the 450 gallon would be ideal but then I saw the 300 gallon and thought that would go through the door easily.

Nice one Andi. Must be something to do with my web browser as well as I struggle to find the same things I found in previous searches and get different results each time unless it's something really obvious.

The 300 gallon tank looks like it would be easy to insulate as it has the lip on the top so that would help with holding in the celotex or kingspan etc. plus at 2ft tall as it gets raised up to the correct height there will be easy access underneath for pipework before it all gets boxed in.
What would you suggest about a lid or cover - more important in the winter than at the moment?
