Insulating floating balls
Hi, just seen an article about using "playpen type" hollow balls for insulating the pond over the winter which seems initially a good idea. Obviously the material needs to be non leaching. The company that appears to be the biggest is euromatic (see website). Has anyone tried using these? They are not cheap but if you get the correct material the idea of not having something looking like fallen scaffolding or a collapsed polytunnel appeals to me.
Any comments would be welcome.
Thanks

I looked into it in detail and spoke to Euromatic. Their literature is contradictory dependent on which piece you read...
Firstly, the literature they gear towards koi ponds says it insulates well and still allows the pond to exchange gases. Then they have the literature geared towards industry / water treatment plants that says it blocks all gas exchanges...
Also its pretty expensive - I got a quote to cover 20 sq metres and for their basic balls it was £1068.00, the self filling balls, which is what they recommend to stop them blowing out in wind, came in at £1210.20.
These quotes were about a month ago.
