    Eazypod fines

Hi guys currently running an eazypod, pump fed in a raised pond containing about ten small to medium koi.

Have noticed lately a few fines getting through, nothing major, but has anyone tried adding anything onto the outlet maybe polish the water up a bit? Only thing I can think of is a small box filter?

I was only just explaining what i do to remove fine from the Easypod to a couple of people at the National Koi Show..
On the return outlet to your pond fit a T piece. Have it installed so that the water runs straight through and the turn of the T is pointing up at a 45 degree angle
On the straight through piece of pipe where all the water will flow, cable tie a sock or tights over the pipe.
This will catch the fines and the outlet at the 45 degree angle is the overflow for when the sock blocks up
Have a section of pipe from the overflow back to your pond
    Result is no more fines

The only trouble is the speed that the sock blocks up really- I once created something like this but ended up buying a set of nylon socks (filter socks not actual socks LOL) and was changing them 4 times a day to stop them blocking and keep them collecting fines. It ended up being a temporary solution but not an everyday one.

If you are pump fed then you need to be so careful you don't cause an overflow due to blockage and drain the pond. I would recommend a float switch wired in to your pump just to make sure this cannot happen.

Love it! ... easy, simple and effective ...

Easy to test for overflow problems .... just block the straight through flow and check the best angle for the overflow ... if there are no probs with the straight through completely blocked then it will be fine with the sock on it.

I've never had any real problems with fines using just k1 ... but if I ever do this is what I will use ...

I was talking to one of the EA guys at the National show last Saturday, he said if you use the Micro K1 in the Eazypod it cuts down the amount of fines.

I thought of that one. Thought it was a good idea. I think it is still. If there all the same size. You have to be carefull. As some go through the grid slats and into my dry pumps. Keep wondering if there doing any damage to my impeller s. So far been chewed and spat out. Every now and then.
Can go a week then find one or two

Thanks for the heads up. I asked the EA bloke if the slots had changed size on the new model which had micro K1 in it, he said no and it would be fine with my older models. I might re think that now if some get past the slots as I do not want to risk damaging my dry mounted pumps.

I have an easy pod brand new on my QT. Well 5 months old.
And some in my nexus 320. And that's been running a year now with micro in the bio side . When I set QT up I took older mature k1 and micro from my nexus 320. And put in the pod. And I would say on average, I get micro k1 coming through every 7 to14 days. Either in nexus. Or pod. Eventualy it will stop. As there obviously smaller in size. I ain't going to stand there picking them out. Be there for ever haha. Just be careful if you do. Put it in.

Had same problem on my growing on pond. My Eazy Pod is gravity fed to a pump, then onto a home made sieve shower. The sieve keeps the fines down.

I wouldn't fancy using micro in mine as I quite often get escaped K1.

I was going to say the Micro would help, also cleaning it too often is a big no no if you ask Evolution Aqua.

Changed my pod media to micro k1 last year due to loads of fines pond is pump feed, since the change over the clarity is brilliant...

We had a nexus 220 running on a 2,500 gall.pond for about 3 years.Although having K1 micro in the easy,it never removed the fines entirely.Various methods were tried, the most effective being Filter wool tied around the easy with a length of silicone air tubing but it blocked up within hours especially with strong sunlight & a 55w UV keeping the green water at bay.The problem was never satisfactorally solved,we eventually in the last few weeks,we bit the bullet & had an Oase Profidrum filter installed, result, crystal clear water & no manual cleaning, expensive but worth it.
