Solvent welding ball valves
Hi all, I am using 1.5” Yamitsu solvent weld ball valves on the waste of my filter. I’ve not solvent welded ball valves before and I’m concerned about the glue getting on the valve surface and causing damage (either sticking it in position or causing a leak).
Any advice on this please?
Thanks
David

Nice idea, thanks.
So I push the valve in place (no silicone) and then run a bead around the join...?

Ah ok, so I follow the same process but replace the solvent cement with silicone because silicone doesn’t damage the ball valve surface.
Thanks, all clear now!

Or use rubber connectors which makes it so much easier to replace the valve when the handle snaps. And it will. It might not be this winter but if it's outside it will eventually snap.

Just like that lol

Would this stuff help to keep them moving more easily? Assuming it’s on the waste and you can get to one side of the valve of course.

I was just going to suggest the same sort of thing with the flexi rubber boots as that's what I have done.
Depending what fittings and pipe you have you could use couplers or if you have pressure pipe fittings you may be better off using reducers as I found using 1.5" pressure pipe and fittings a 1.5" reducer fits the pipe and 2" reducer fits the fittings so I was using 2" to 1.5" reducers and not gluing anything.
I wouldn't use WD40 on anything that may be likely to come into contact with your pond water but instead would look for a fish safe lubricant.
Good luck
