Question What Sealant for SealEco GreenSeal EPDM Pond Liner (Synthetic Rubber Membrane)

    Ok Guys

I've probably asked this before like several others & I know there is several discussions on the subject on this forum but I still do not have a clear understanding.....

What is the best Sealant for SealEco GreenSeal EPDM Pond Liner (Synthetic Rubber Membrane) to uPVC fittings, Glass & Wood.

I've got a Gordon Low SealEco GreenSeal EPDM Pond Liner (1mm) & intend to fit with sealant an aerated bottom drain, tank liner return & a grass viewing window fixed to the wooden sleeper frame then liner then glass... what is the best CHEAP sealant? I have plenty of ‘Bond It’ HA6 RTV Silicone Sealant (Marine Safe) £3.50 tube; would that be ok to seal all fittings to liner & what prep is required etc. or would you advise another product/products? I presume Gold Label is the right stuff but its so expensive.

So far I've been recommended to use Aquamate silicone for the liner to glass seal and Gold Label for all other fittings.... I have a product called CT1 sealant with is a beast but manufacturer gave this statement "CT1 is safe to use in a pond and can be used on most pond liners the only thing doesn’t have strong bond to is Polyethylene or polypropylene, I believe this has polyethylene, but since we have enhanced our formula, we have found that CT1 will bond to Polyethylene, I would suggest testing an area first"

*Also advised to; Clean the area of the liner where it will seal with emery cloth, then a quick wipe with thinners, no need to soak the cloth.

Put me on the right path guys!

Any informed advise welcome as I intend to install the liner in the coming week.

Thanks but what I tried to say or should have mentioned was I emailed the manufacturer and they do not recommend HA6 for EPDM rubber

Lol... I’m sure it and many like it are just fine but the employee I spoke with probably wanted to protect themselves from a lawsuit... I’m sure HA6 is fine as well but can’t risk it I’ll probably spend the money and get gold seal

ok i used to be the biggest advocat for ha6,i used it on my old pond with epdm liner on bottom drain and on window and skimmer, but when i came to use it on new pond it just wasnt the same, didnt seem to be as adhesive,so tried CT1,best thing i did,i have 2bd and widemouth skimmer and 2 windows,a small one in front with a steel frame and then a large one inside which is just glass against liner, all stuck with ct1 and had no leaks whatsoever, and my liner is an epalyn epdm and its holding 5500g in lol,,,,,andi

ha6 will not actually adhere to epdm ,it will create a seal..... but you can peel it away from the liner but definitely not from the glass which is why it is so good for aquariums

I purchased HA6 as on offer of £3.50 per tube for the glass but now knowing it only seals to liner I will spend more for either Idealseal MS290 recommended by yourself or Aquamate which was recommended to me by the company whom sold me the liner, Atlantica Gardens quote; "We use Aquamate silicone for the liner to glass seal and I would use Gold Label for the fittings" as both tad cheaper than CT1.

The more I research the more I'm lead to believe the best & strongest to be; MS Polymer (modified Polymer) based sealants

    In conclusion I phoned several manufacturers whom mostly said "no it wont adhere but try it on a small sample" which didn't give me confidence as I wont be using a frame for my window & will rely on the sealant & water pressure to hold the glass once pond is full, therefore for future Koi enthusiasts I will use;

    1. For the Wood to EPDM Liner & Glass to EPDM Liner

Idealseal MS290 MS Polymer Silicone Free Sealant and Adhesive 290ml

    2. For the uPVC Fittings (Bottom Drain, Tank Liner & Skimmer) to EPDM Liner

Hutton's Gold Label Pond Sealant and Adhesive 290ml

    Thanks for advice
