Dedicated Grow on set up
Hello all,
The ball is now rolling on my dedicated grow on set up. I visited my local Koi show the weekend (MSKKS / Mid Staffs) and its kicked me into gear even more.
I had a little time on my hands so knocked up a little drawing on Paint (attached).
I now have the 750gl circular holding tank (Denby Koi), KF5000 vortex multi chamber and a 3 tier Bakki c/w Midori media from Queni koi.
I have a Fencing company coming next Thursday to make it as private as possible. I am an end house on the street and this set up is on the side of my house.
I need some ideas in regards to cladding, being circular it makes it that little bit more awkward to make it look neat and tidy. Also any ideas on a Polycarbonate cover would be much appreciated.
I will upload some pictures later on this evening or at some point tomorrow of my current progress and before / after pictures.
Jam.

Don’t forget you will need to insulate it all and fit a heater. Have you decided what heater you are going to use

i'm currently trying to figure out the best way of insulating in regards to how and what cladding i use, i dont want there to be any voids / cavities between the material and insulation.
In regards to a heater i am still undecided, i put a post on a Koi group on FB asking for an info or feedback and the comments i received were incredibly mixed. As much as i am grateful of any help i had one person saying get a 1kw Blagdon and then another saying get a 6kw all singing and dancing.
Do you have any info based on experience?
Thanks in advance.

I used a 2kw heater on my 400gal tank cos that is what I had but you could use a1kw or bigger. Just use a in line one and not a drop in one like in a fish tank

Bit awkward being round but doable.
Presume its fiberglass so rigid, you can get 8' x4' polystyrene from a builders merchant say 25mm thick so it is bendable, bend it round the tank tightly, you could put several layers on or use bubble wrap cheap from Ebay.
Would sit the tank on thick polystyrene say 4ins as cold rises from the ground.
All this can then be boxed in making it square if you wish.
As for heater I would go for 2kw for 700 gals.John

Thanks, i was always going to go for an inline... Just do i go for one of these digital ones or a simple one.
To be honest if i get a simple one i'll probably end up wishing i'd have gone for the digital haha.

Many thanks John,
Yes, fiberglass... we have some very strong pallets where i work so i was thinking of sitting it on a couple of them (would sit nicely) and then filling the cavities with insulation so the polystyrene option sounds good to me.
In regards to cladding i think i'm going to go for the option of making it square like you suggested, this way i can give it some corners for the Bakki shower to sit and a couple of my Acers.
Fencing work starts tomorrow (fingers crossed) so i will be uploading some pictures soon.

frame it and fill with expanding foam if you are sure everything is water tight.

Wired to a 1kw emersion heater, but dont think it would take 2kw.John

double bubble foil insulation , fill all voids with spray foam , then wrap again , shame you werent on the island as i have a few 25m roles going cheap , i use a 500w inline heater for each of mine and works a treat
if you vertically frame the outside and then simple steam bend 10mm osb board you can clad with cedar shingles , they look and weather a treatLast edited by dustykoi; 21-08-2019 at 09:20 PM.

Thanks John,
I think i may go down the option of a pallet frame and then just make it look nice and tidy with some form of cladding. Dustykoi mentioned some Cedar shingles which i think could look rather nice.
We've loads of spare pallets where I work, maybe i should start selling them on haha.

They can be used on roofs but also as external cladding. Its a Cedar wood so when they age they look rather nice,656.jpg

Right Guys,
the plan with the circular vat i have was to be pump fed into a KF5000 multibay then over a 3 tier Bakki.
After seeing a few different posts on FB i am beginning to doubt the use of a pump.
In February i will be having approx 50 Tosai in this vat so quite abit of waste will be produced. This is why i am questioning the use of a pump.
Now the vat is not tapered in anyway so there is no natural fall for any waste. Will this be an issue?
So the question is... Do i fit a bottom drain or stick with the pump fed
