    Top Pond LEAK!!!!

Hi all i've got a leak in my pond and i've isolated it to the top pond with the waterfall, the water drops 4 inches below the edge of the waterfall whats the best way to find the split or hole ? nothing obvious to the eye it takes 3 hours for the water to get to this level, is it safe to use food colouring or something similar to see where the water is seeping through? forgot to mention the pond is liner .

    Thanks in Advance Colin

    Hi Colin,
If the water drops to 4" below then stays there, then the hole must be at that waterline- so go all the way round the edge at that line and examine it really slowly. it can be a very tiny pin hole. gently pull the liner out slightly at that line as you go and flex it a bit to see if its a little slit that you can only see when it gapes in a certain direction.

Milk or heavy cream works well as it's heavier than water and when poured slowly along the wall you'll see where it's being sucked in.

Good answer s . Years ago on my older pond I used milk..it was on the bottom
Took nearly a week to find it. Dropping a few inches every day. But in the end the milk way sucked through and I found it.
Had to get a new liner in the end.

    Top Pond LEAK!!!!

Milk isn’t great for fish, don’t forget how rancid it smells when it goes sour.
Can’t recall the exact reasons but I know it’s banned from putting in fishing groundbait at some lakes.

probably because it has a higher BOD than raw sewage, dairy is terrible for water courses
