    Drums and Waste from them

Had a bit of an easy day in work today, so started thinking again about my future pond build, first I wondered when and if Drums will get cheaper and how much waste water do they excrete, my nearest main drain is quite a way from where filter house will be, although I've prefabbed drain/rain water drainage running around back of the house to a gulley, could I run waste into that?

    They're similar to these

    Thought Please

My profi drum uses 1 litre of water per clean and goes off between 24 and 48 times a day so very low water use.
As for them coming down in price. I don’t think so as they are not mass market products. Plus I would expect more use of technology to be incorporated into their design (already happening) such as WiFi water parameter monitoring etc so I’d expect this to keep prices higher as well.

That said, there are drums on the market from £1000 to over £5000 so it depends what you want and can afford.

I'll have to go out and sell my body to afford a Koi pond before long

How handy are you at DIY?
You don’t “need” a drum mate. They just make things easier to maintain.
You could start with a secondhand sieve, make your own bio chamber/shower and fill the shower with grog.
Failing that, look out for a big old used multibay and fill that with whatever you can afford.
Keep a lookout for some secondhand K1. Grab a couple of Jabeo pumps and a secondhand air pump.
Ok, still not “cheap” but more affordable.
Nobody is going to look down their noses just because you don’t have a never ending budget. I fact, I’m always quite envious of the people who can build stuff as I’m so crap at anything like that it’s quite frustrating having to part with my hard earned when if I could be a bit good at say, cutting holes out of plastic barrels without making them too big, I’d be considerably better off than I am now Drums and Waste from themDrums and Waste from them

Hi BCC I second your views mate, same as, I cannot cut a piece of wood straight following a line let alone build anything like these ponds everyone has lol, really pleased with the way set up is beginning to look but boy is it all costly..... so wish I could be practical or at least cut a piece of wood straight Steve....

Been talking to a workmate not half hr ago about my waste water issue and he said to get some marine ply make a tank and fiberglass it inside and out and put it in ground with a 50quid sump pump and float, then we got on to doing same for a bio tank, is there a special fiberglass and resin you need for a pond or tanks,?
His Uncle repairs boats etc with fiberglass, but wasn't sure if you could use the same resin's etc.

Lloyds approved resin and flocoat, not gelcoat.
600 plus tissue will be fine to line a box and would work fine proving your box is strong enough.
Deffo doable, someone in here has done it I’m sure.

Cheers BCC, phoned Rob at Cotswold Koi nice chap very helpful, I phoned to ask him about the Evolve Filter system they've just had a revamp though and price has gone up .
He did recommend the Draco Solum 16 and 25 with their Bio tank though, may go with that and build my own shower, have you got to put the same media in the shower in all 3 tiers or can you mix it up?
    Cheers

No need to use anything fancy for a sump pump container to waste. Just a barrel or water but buried can do the job nicely.

It won't collapse will it from weight from the outside pushing against it?

Ive just got a blue barrel (220ltr) one i think, buried in floor of filter pit with a float switch dirty water pump.Never let me down and i just pump to wherever i need .Works a treat been in ground(soil and some shingle) 5 + years.

Haven't you had any float switch failures? .. 5+ years is pretty good value for money ...
