So repaired the nexus today with valves i had here. Not the best but will do for now. Was planning on putting it on a bed of gravel but decided against it and laid a concrete pad. Then the heavy rain started which really messed the finish on it but who cares its only to sit the filter on. Wired in air pump, water pump and uv. Pond is currently half full. Roll on tomorrow.

That drain location is tantamount to a lottery win!

Got the filter plumbed in running 15000 lph superfish eco variable through the nexus, uv and back through mid level return. Not putting shower back on until coping stones are on. 30l fresh k1 in eazy with 120l in bio side. Used the 30 out of the eazypod in the bio side as its mature.

Bowled up a few when moving them in:

Scraped a couple and fluke is no more. I used water from old pond so they settled in straight away and are eating. I had a few tiddlers and put them in a floating next as I planned on getting rid. Bloody hole in net and they escaped so they will be staying.

The parachina is a nice koi and obviously my splodge headed tancho. Don't mind murky water, have had no UV on for two weeks and through a blanket weed treatment in as i pumped a ton of it from old pond.
Thats it for a week finishing touches required.Last edited by dave_vr6; 16-06-2019 at 04:25 PM.

Hi Dave I'm new to the forum and been following your pond build with interest. I'm.in the process of building my first pond 12 X 8 X 5 deep. Solid block and concrete base with bottom drain. The brickies are upto 7 courses now another 6 to reach 5ft deep. I'm having an issue with water seeping under the bottom course of block because of the water table. I plan on having it insulated 25mm kingspan around Inside walls and then glassed but I need to get this water penetration solved. If the worst case scenario happens and I can't have it glassed because of this water would I be able to have a box liner instead like you and still use the existing airrated bottom drain and fit some sort of ring to seal the liner to bottom drain. Thanks Andy

How have you laid your block? As long as they are laid flat you can go the boxweld route And use your current bottom drain. I just hit the water table 2 feet down. Couldn't go any further.
However you have done all the hard work to accommodate glass. I am no expert on it to be honest.
Could you not use a waterproof render? Render everything before kingspan and fibreglass?

Hi Dave the block are on their widest side 8" wide 4" high. I read on another post that someone else had a similar problem, waited for a decent spell of dry weather and got the pond glassed then filled up with water before rain started again, wet of water kept the glass pushed back. I may have to dig a sump hole and put a pump in. Just wanted to check about the liner with the currently fitted bottom drain I have in see if it's suitable. Thanks dave

Ok thanks Dave I really appreciate your help. I have that option then with a box liner just in case I can't get it glassed. One company that does the glass reccomend using a product called sika 4a you mix with cement and it's sets very quickly and literally stops running water there are a few videos on YouTube so that's another option. I'll post some photos of the build if I can figure out how to do it !!

Picking up some natural Indian sandstone coping tomorrow, then its render and paint time.
Then its just dressing and done. Will need to drain some water and pull out some creases before laying the coping but that the joys of a liner and I am not overly fussed about them. Its not my forever pond but just something to get my passion back!
Have started measuring the garage, I have some serious plans for a massive grow on facility in there. The VR6 can stay on the drive!
Tried to get a couple of shots of the paintball victim Tancho but shes a little camera shy... Also been feeding Hikari Growth and my Shiroji is turning yellow. Has anyone used Hikari pure white? At £110 for 5kg it better be made of unicorn poo!

See what you mean about the paint splat.... but still looks a really nice Koi. Not many people that would turn down having that in their pond.
Just noticed your signature.... bet you have the same sig on your car forums, assuming you're on a VW forum somewhere or other.

Yes, not so much involved anymore was vice chair of the owners club for years.
As for the tancho she wasn't always like that. I think I tried to grow her too fast in the early days and the spot just stretched and spread.
That fish was selected by Chris For someone, but on it's journey from ogata to UK a fin got split and the customer refused it. I bought it for a bargain and with Chris advice in 23 degrees with some salt it healed in no time.
