Ok so here’s some picture of the fish finally! They are not great due to not being close ups but should give you an idea of what they look like. I ended up getting Ranchu fancy goldfish. For anyone who doesn’t know, they have large round bodies, jelly heads and no dorsal fin. Here’s some pics

Yeah will heat to 18 over winter or I will bring them indoors into an aquarium. I reckon I should get some good growth on them this year! Hope to get them all to at least 4 inches. Will be getting another 2 red and whites in the next few months. Hopefully spawn them next year!

Awww they're SO cute!!! ... I love ranchu's and the way they wiggle ... I've considered keeping them outside in the past and trying to grow them to the size of small footballs ...
That messy pump wiring is the only thing that ruins the look ... some mini cable ties and a bit of wire manipulation/training will soon sort that out.
What about lighting? for after dark max bling .... check out low voltage led strip lights and you could velcro them on under the edge of your decking borders ... RGB strips give: 16 million shades, bluetooth control from phone app and programmable dimming and custom colour sequences and sound to light reaction from music on your phone ... for a tiny pond like that it would be really dramatic ...

Haha thanks yeah I love them! Yeah it is annoying me, however today I’m going to try and make that floating plant boarder. The aim was to have floating plants cover most of the pump and heater ect as I can’t stand having things inside the pond. There are a couple of cable ties holding the wires together but I’ll see if I can make it so the plants cover most of it. I actually purchased some LED’s! I got some before I started the build exactly for that purpose. Annoyingly the rim of the pond is too close to the edge of the boards due to the polystyrene insulation’s which pushes it out. Therefore I can’t get any to fit underneath. Might have to have another try though as it would look awesome! Thanks

They look great Chris, love em.
You'll need to start building fry tanks soon ready for next years spawnings!
The Calicos look like they're siblings so maybe can't breed them together.
The big red one might get you a prize in the novice class of the annual show (in Essex), assuming the fins are correct.
If you become interested in other varieties I have 2 show standard male Moors that I'm not sure what to do with since my last female died..... let me know if you wanted to consider taking them.

Haha yeah! I definitely want to spawn them next year. I have all the stuff ready from when I tried to spawn the Koi. I have fry nets, holding nets, Artemia hatchery’s ect ect. I have two tanks and my aquarium as well which is good. Think the Calicos where from different batches luckily as I selected them from different ponds from the retailer.
Yes the big red one is lovely (called her hammerhead lol). Think she is the female that spawned with the black Ranchu. That’s nice! But the only other variety’s I like are short tail ryukin and butterfly telescopes. Want to keep this a Ranchu only pond I’m afraid, but thanks for the offer!
Cheers

No problems Chris. I feel that my male Broadtailed Moors are a bit wasted in my tank.... They are top notch and need to be bred and showed. I could auction them off at a show but that means re-joining a club and going through all the crap to be eligible to sell at auction.
I've bred loads of butterfly telescopes (trying to improve aspects of my fork tailed telescopes), and yes they'd suit your tank as they look good viewed from above, but they don't technically conform to any show standards in the UK. You might get away with them in an "any other variety" class, but you'll never win Best in Show / Grand Champion with them here in the UK. Not saying you'd necessarily want to do that, but its the sole reason I didn't get into them in a big way as they are stunning fish, especially Calicos.

Ahhh that’s a shame, maybe put them up for sale on the internet. Someone may buy them at some point. Yeah I do like the butterfly telescopes but I think I just want to keep Ranchu to be honest, I love them so much!
Not too interested in showing, but after getting into Koi and then going through the process of getting higher quality fish, I just couldn’t get into standard grade ranchu as I knew I’d want higher quality ones haha. If I get standard fish I’d just end up selling them and buying higher quality fish.
Cheers

So, another update. Managed to get some Amazon frogbit of my friend today and made a little plant boarder. Will make another boarder over the far corner to give some more surface cover, I’m hoping these plants survive! Here’s some plant and feeding pics

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
