Thread: Sephs build

    Sephs build

Bank holiday weekend and I've made a start, kind of! I've cleared the area where the pond will be, cut down and dug up a couple small trees, moved about 2 tonne of small pebbles and rocks that made up the edges of the previous home owners pond and ripped up the old liner

So plan is 14.5 X 9 ft 4.5/5 ft deep, estimate 3700 gallon hollow block build, glassed. Filtration plan is bottom drain and skimmer to drum then to k1 moving bed, back to pond via 2 mid water returns ( all subject to change if you have any ideas! )

Here's where I'm at now, I've left 4 ft between the garage and where the pond will be for filtration and the 2 silver metal sticks are the length markers

i was going to use the garage as a filter house but i bought a 500 gallon grow on an thats in there next to the window, the filters will be under the window on the outside with some kind of roof, saying that im going to put a cover over it as the garden is south facing and that area is in sun all day

    Hi
I have a similar set up the gap between the pond and garage is 130cm which is quite tight but can work.
I had two nexus 220's in there before going to the drum, if I did it all again I would allow slightly more room say 150cm +.
Make sure you think about your filtration and pipework draw it out and make sure it fits.
I just have to get on and make a cover for it now and get the heat exchanger plumbed in somwhere!

Nice one mate, always good to see a pic of something that's around the same size, I can definitely move it down no problems

    Arr thanks
Because it was really changing things doing away with the two nexus it took a little working out.
Trying to future proof stuff a little.
Also had in my mind the filter the other way around with the drum this side but it is handed because of the waste valves (though could have turned the bio units around).
I had to move all the pipework under the filters to the opposite end.
It meant in the end that I could take a 3" pipe from the skimmer into the drum.

Little bit more progress going on today, had mesh delivered, cut it and I'm going to glue up the drain and air line, and cement those so the don't get moved

Fill your pipe with water and it should help stop it from moving arpumd as much when you concrete.
The air line pipe can be wired to the mesh.

I used rags and then rapped them in bin liners and tape

Bubble wrap sounds good though. So long as you have a seal. I also put a breeze block in centre of the drain on top of the plastic and rag bung. Also filled the drain
And pipe to my filter house with water.
I put that in to check for leaks before concrete pour. So left it in and used it for weight. So nothing moved. Also in case any cement did get in. If your not confident
Of doing that you can get these

    Hope this helps

If anyone else is reading this thats building, avoid toolstations bung, they dont work when i checked my pipe work i bunged the pipe inside the drain and filled the 4 inch pipe up to the elbow and then filled the drain, i saw bubbles in the drain from the bung so i gave it a tighten and the rubber on the bung collapsed, theres alot of water in 4m of 4inch

Fred, ive encased the drain in concrete and i have some blobs either side of the pipework also have rebar over the top tied to the main bar so pretty sure its secure for the pour but i didnt want something resting on the top of the drain getting in the way when levelling the concrete. i was thinking bung the pipe putting something heavy in the drain just incase then taping a circle of rubble bag just under the lip inside then tape all ove the top of the drain so i can level straight over the drain?

Can anyone give me any advice on pump sizes, so at last measure the pond should be 3000gallon at present im going to be going though a drum a cpl mid water returns and over a shower

  37. #20
I’d have thought a couple of 20k variable flow pumps would be ideal?
One for the shower, one for the returns.
Kinda depends on how big your shower is really.
