    The age old filtration argument

Hello, I would like my 7000 gallon pond to be gin clear, at the moment it’s ok but can not see the bottom, I have two BD and air pumps and two pumps pulling water through the anoxic filtration with brushes and vortex etc in front of these, it’s clear but not crystal clear ,, I don’t really want the big nexus system as unless hidden they look unsightly, could I have your suggestions or if you have a similar set up? Kings Lyn koi have a filter on the market I’ve been informed will do the trick ?? The age old filtration argument thank you in advance

you will struggle to get gin clear with brushes, they let all the fines through.
do you have a big enough u.v ?, sounds like a drum filter is needed tbh if nexus is too big.
Also if you want really good water you have to be doing constant trickle in and out, the more water you trickle the nicer it looks.

Gin clear and Nexus are rarely used in the same sentence.

As already said, drum filter = gin clear.

Drum filter [which one?] and what else would you recommend, BD to drum then pumped to pond or through other filters?

I like the idea of a Drum filter makes life easier and cleaner from what I've read anyway.

    Thanks

If your water parameters are ok at the moment then just stick a drum in place of your brushes.
A “35” model would be adequate, a “50” would be better. Also leaves you with some capacity to up the flow/add a shower later for some additional bio.
Also agree with the trickle in/out.

Drum will do the mechanical, the anoxic should do the bio. If it is struggling then add a second pumped feed over a shower or add a separate bio chamber.
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

    It was
I was curious to understand your thinking behind having a bead. I’d suggest that these days better options are available which is why you see so many going secondhand.

What Pip says is what I suggested earlier, keep it simple. Your anoxic is working yes? If so, you’re halfway there already

I haven't has of yet got a pond, but I have tonight marked out for one and wife seems quite happy with the size I've chosen, wish Id gone bigger now
Im just concerned about how best to filter it, but I really only want to do it once then sit back and enjoy, Im definitely going down the Drum route, just notsure on which one to chose and what to put after the drum.

Sorry for high jacking your Thread Richard 17

Richard, what is the filter Klk have on the market,is it a drum?

You need to bin the brushes, get a drum with three inlets as you have two bottom drains and presumably a skimmer.
From the drum to bio and from drum to shower or your anoxic filter which you have.
Two pumps one from bio and other to shower/anoxic.

Drums are the way to go now.

It is a drum , a hefty price but maybe this is the only way to go, the water parameters are spot on the anoxic chambers are working for sure, so maybe that’s the way remove brushes and foam etc replace with a large drum ,, it would seem all the drums regardless of make do the same thing,, what is the purpose of the “shower” ? Thank you

Drums can be expensive but excellent in clearing water, there are loads out there and all different prices.
You maybe dont need a shower Richard but they are great for good bacteria and need a good flow of water and create loads of oxygen,Japanese guys use them.Queni koi do a good selection of drums, they dont take up much room and virtually zero maintenance.

you have 2 bds so for the cost i would buy 2 aem drums, stick one on each bd,and also feed your skimmer into one, have one feeding the anoxic slowly and the other feeding a shower from bigger pump, sound daft but you essentially have 2 systems running and if one breaks down your still filtered,,,,,andi
