Thread: Pump for waste water system

It does 75 litres a minute. Which is ample for my draco drum wash cycles. Even when I used it to completely pump the water out of the entire nexus 500 litres it did in about 5 to 6 minutes. The central easy section of the nexus is 100 litres, so it took just over a minute to pump that out. Because its sealed it will pump as much as it can but you know its not going to overflow like a sump can potentially do if you pump is not fast enough.

75 lpm is 4500 lph isn't it? If so that's probably in reality pumping more than the current 5500 allowing for head and pressure loss as that is only about 60 to 70 Watts at that flow rate and yours is 250 Watts at that flow rate. It's a bit like comparing a 1 litre engine with a 3 litre engine if you know what I mean?

your only doing it now and then so the electricity usage is negligible, save money and get the best dirty water handling unit you can get for the budget and then only have to buy once

Thanks for posting this Steve, looks like a good bit of kit and I must say I would be very tempted if I got a Draco.
Currently have a 50 litre sump and sump pump under the Nexus, sump pump can be a bit hit or miss, but this sealed unit would be perfect if I fitted a Draco.
The one you linked to has 2 inlets. Does yours have 2 inlets? Do you need to blank one off?

Yes it does have 2 inlets but it comes with a blanking stopper if you only use one inlet which I did.

Yes I know what you mean but with the amount I'm spending at the moment my budget is getting smaller and smaller LOL Had car and van insurance plus car tax plus van service and MOT all in the last month or so not to mention what I've sent on the pond and QT build. Didn't help that with that flu I had I was off work for about a month as it messed up my balance

LOL RS just asked the same question I was going to Steve - about the number of inlets
I recon that will be spot on for my QT so ordered one yesterday was going to have the Pod on one inlet and the Barrel on the other inlet
Still got to work out exactly what I am going to do with regards to the waste from my main pond as I got a better tub and fitted that yesterday but still need to sort out a decent pump for it

That should work well with that set up as you can utilise both inlets. The deilvery was really quick as well. Good luck hope it works well for you.

OK I washed the Pod out this morning and thought I'd see how it got on with the new tub. I tried to let the tub take all of the water from washing out the Pod before turning on the pump. The Pod holds more than 90 litres as I had to shut the waste valve off and quickly switch the pump on. Second wash out was with the tub partly filled as the pump won't empty it any lower than about 2" to 3" up from the bottom. With the pump running before the waste valve was opened the pump just about kept up with the rate the water was coming into the tub although it was a very close race With the new waste pipework I recon that the Pod will drain in under 20 seconds
Definitely need a more powerful pump and a level control of some description.
I've seen some puddle pumps but just not sure if they will have the flow rate to keep up so will need to have another look at them as they tend to drain almost right to the bottom of the tub and at least that way there will be more space in the tub to begin with compared to the current set up having to start with 2" to 3" of water in the tub which is probably at least 10 litres of water I would guess.
When I tried with an empty tub the only thing that was in there was the pump and the hose which obviously take up some space but even so I recon the Pod must hold nearly 100 litres of water when doing a wash out cycle. Well that's assuming the tub is actually 90 litres?

Installed one of these today. Works a treat and the flow rate is much better than expected, can't tell the difference between this against the previously installed 150 lpm Sump pump.
Its great to have something fitted that's reliable. No more jammed floats or air locks etc that prevent sump pumps switching on or off, and hopefully no more flooded filter pits.
Mine has 2 non return valves included so haven't come across the problem Frim had with it continually switching on as water backs down the pipe.
The one problem I have found is that it overflows a little through the seal that holds the top cover on. Obviously its got the entire weight of the Nexus behind it and when I fully open the tap you can see the body bulging a little! If you only open the tap 3/4 then you don't get the issue as it pumps as fast as the Nexus can supply it.
The only other issue is the power cable is a bit on the short side (approx. 1 metre).
I have used a wago box to connect it to a longer cable, but this is probably well against regs seeing as its in the filter pit. Need some sort of water proof box to make the connection.
Frim, can you suggest something as small as possible to do the job?Last edited by RS2OOO; 11-07-2019 at 10:51 PM.

Hi RS just seen your reply and had chance to answer it as I have had a busy few days work wise.
I see what you mean about the pipe work on the outlet coming vertically away from the unit just not sure if I can do that with mine now but may have a look later on.
As for a connector for the short lead you could use an inline waterproof joint, an inline waterproof plug and socket or a Wiska box and stuffing glands depending on where you want to mount things or how much room you have.
Just some ideas of what to look for not where to buy them from OK -
Waterproof box -

Cable gland - stuffing gland -

Inline connector -

Inline plug and socket -

Inline plug and socket -

Personally I prefer the cable glands similar to the ones I have put a link to rather than the ones with a hexagon nut that screws into the top of the gland body the ones that screw over the top of the gland body seem to be able to be done up tighter I think. Just be areful as some places sell bags of 10 rather than 1s or 2s OK.
