Cant help much Aj as I have never had a retro bottom drain so if it works like a bottom one then go for it.
Bottom drains are a must in my opinion but if not fitted then go for the next best.John

You have a lovely pond there Aj though its not finished.
So you have a liner fitted, bit drastic pulling it out or is it easy enough.
Ok if you go down there a bottom drain can be fitted if you can dig beneath the wall !!
As for pipe,I have never used pressure pipe, but dont take my advice as it is up to you,I use above ground black pipe solvent welded to drain then up to surface then push fit to valve/filter.
All my returns to pond are 1.5ins or 2ins normal solvent weld pipe, but I am changing to 2ins thick wall flexi pipe brilliant stuff with no restrictions and easy to fit,Kitsu koi are cheap for the flexi pipe.John

Undermining shouldn't really be to much of a problem.doing a big enough hole filter side as to get in and weld will be the mare . A ferret I ain't. . Didn't think of flexi for returns could be some thing to look at all will come down to cost really. Am sure am part Yorkshire when it comes to spending money start sweating and every thing hahaha

I havnt used these yet but I have used the pipe and these are the cheapest I have found, good stuff.
Solvent I use Toolstation as it is cheap and good quality but harder to fit than flexi.
Black 4ins from wickes is good, offer at the moment is 3mtrs for £10.John

Cheers John thanks for that would work out cheaper and easier than pipe and fittings 90 ect . I would be boxing it all in and packing with insulation so now worry of getting a spilt off something walking on it or falling

I have used that pipe on my grow on. from pump to fixed pipe. its very very strong. I reckon if you dropped a brick on it. it would nt touch it or damage. and you would be able to walk across it. but for obvious reasons try to install it where people aint going to trip on it. its far better then the ribbed hose. and as john said its harder to fit then ribbed hose. but good hose.

It is incredibly strong Aj not like the ribbed stuff as Fred said, and it is quite smooth on the outside and can be solvent welded.

What i meant about harder to fit then ribbed hose. Is its not as flexible. Its easy to fit. But harder to bend if that make s sense.

What I do is with my heat gun give the part I want to bend a gentle heat works great,or a blow lamp very gently and keep it moving.

i think if i was using it i would put tank connector with solid pipe through pond wall then a bend on outside to connect the flexi to,then you dont need a big arc of pipe to get it to attach to where tank connector is,if you get my meaning,,,andi

Agree with andi, I would use tank connectors and a length of pipe through the wall to a 90 degree bend then to the flexi
