I've recently bought a Jebao 20k variable from the new TSP range. £150.
The TSP range is advertised for either dry or submerged mounting and whilst everyone runs the DCTs dry mounted anyway, the DCTs warranty is void if running them dry mounted as they are only supposed to be submerged.

When you get the big fellas in there.
And they start to up the sh_te load.
You will notice it. Like we talked about once before. Add them slowly. If you can mate. Plus a lot more cleaning. But your set up is not bad. Even better with a draco in there. In my nexus 320. I have 250 lts of media in there k1 and helx
I am going to add another 50 liters
And take it to 300lts.
How much media you got in your nexus.

I had one badged up as a PondExpert variflow the 30,000 one. Great pump but I had the feeling it was working hard at above about 80% power - not rough sounding just a bit louder and you didn't seem to get as much extra flow for the power in as when under 80%. Its a good idea to get one a size up from what you need so you can run it turned down a bit - I suspect you will save running costs and extend the life of the pump. Don't go too high though - the 30,000 still produced a lot of flow even on its lowest setting.
I directly compared it to a blue eco 240 - the blue eco won but not by much of a margin and if I hadn't been able to pick up the Blue Eco second hand and really cheep I would have been sticking with the Variflow/Jebao for sure.6000g in ground koi pond
+3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Exactly my thought process. 12k per hour is plenty for me and at that flow the 20k variable uses half the power of a dedicated 12k pump.
If you want to flow at 18k then maybe the 30k variable is the better option as it will pay for itself over time through the energy savings, yet still have plenty of oomph to turn up on the day you want to empty your pond in a hurry.

Hi Scotty/all
sorry to jump on this thread, but Interesting to read about flow rates, + manufacturers ratings at zero head and reality in a Koi pond. For example my set up is:
4" BD > Nexus 320 with Draco Drum>Blue Eco>6kw Elecro (backup)>>Invertor Heatpump>2 x UV's>Pond. All returns in 1.5" pipes (doh!)
You can see that I got bitten by the bug, and added much more over last years to the set up then when I started! Thats a hell of lot of stuff for the water to flow through, despite swept bends.
If I was to do again of course some of the gear would be added to skimmer/Pod line. Anyhow I have a Blue Eco 500w variable on it with a max 42000 LPH with zero head and no restrictions etc etc....sounds super powerful ehh!?
So I have it set at 320watt which should be 27000 LPH mathematically with zero head etc. - Reality measured through the installed electronic water flow meter just before entering the pond is 8900 LPH! How cr@p is that! Even on full belt I'd only get 13900lph! My set up is clearly too restricted, but be wary of estimating actual flow, as you may be really surprised by the reality, even in a better designed / simpler set up!
However the flow seems to be ok for my Nexus/draco as Ammonia and Nitrate reading are always around 0.01/0.02 mg/l (measured on palintester), but I have Nitrate always of around 40mg/l.. I also have the pod on the skimmer line which helps....
Cheers

That's the exact one I have open in another tab on Amazon! Looks great for that money. It's the wattage that gets me super interested. My Sequence is a great bit of kit but the running cost is a killer. My pond is on a separate electricity feed so I can see exactly what it costs...wish I couldn't!
So is the TCP better than the DCT range? Can't seem to figure it out. I am guessing TCP.

I believe they are the same pump, jebao themselves say that a lot of premium brand pump and filter equipment is rebranded Jebao.
I have a chart somewhere that shows performance Vs head height for the TSP.
Forum member Markini, if he's around could tell you the exact wattage Vs flow speed as he was experimenting with the 20k TSP.... It's obviously variable depending on individual factors such as pipe diameter and lengths etc. Inlets and outlets are 2" but I run through 1.5" returns so mine is strangled a bit.

I've just picked up a TCP 20,000 so will see how this fairs when I fit it. Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to get it running.
I love the build quality and the reliability of the Sequence pumps I've got but they are seriously thirsty fellas. Hoping the TCP brings the running cost down a wee bit!
I'll report back.

Sorry Freddy, just noticed I didn't answer your questions and pointers from before!
As you recommended before, I'll add the big fellas slowly. I've only got 6 total to add so maybe I'll do them in 2 goes at 3 per time a couple of weeks apart.
I've got 125 litres of K1 in my 320 at the mo and it boils very nicely. Reckon I should add some more before the spring comes and the Koi turn up? I've got an EA 130 pumping air into it so it can cope with more K1 for sure.
