Concrete Pond Sealing - which SIKA Product or Alternative?

    Advice required please.

Our builder has suggested the internal sealing should be Sikatop 145 (Cuvelage); checking with SIKA themselves they recommend Sikatop 209 reservoir ( because its a finish which is acceptable for human drinking water).

Can anyone recommend the right product to use ? If its a SIKA product even better as that seems to translate well in French.

Thanks for your help -- again

i cant imagine anoybody on here would know without doing some research, most folk here use fibreglass or have a box weld liner made..
You might have to contact the manufacturer.

Thanks so much for the reply. Sika are very clear to use the ‘ Reservoir’ product. It’s my ignorance driving the enquiry as ‘ fibreglass’ is a catch all and means different things to different folks. It was that which started my research as to what to use. I’m just trying to get a bit of precision to the uilders so I end up with a safe / non leaky environment for my koi keeping.

PS I’m amazed at the knowledge on here !

The stuff looks rather like the KA tanking slurry I used on our pool. It was great stuff but slightly difficult to get a really smooth finish - it didn't matter for us as we were tiling over the top of it.

Also do you know how they seal round pond fitments using it? With fibre glassing I can see the method and you end up with a neat finish with the fiber covering the flat plate of the fitments etc. Not sure the cement type finish would do the same. Cant help thinking that fiber glass would give you the best finish -but if you go for it, it would be best to get a specialist in to do the work - leaks are a BIG pain.

JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.

I used Sika, but it was a long time I could not remember which one it was. I remember that I was given the advice to make high-grade concrete in which I should add something ( some liquid ingredient ) and it becomes waterproof so you do not need a coating. The problem was that they were selling that liquid at higher volumes and I could not get just a few liters. Today, this is different, all Sika products can be find in smaller packages.

I did the coating using paint brush. It's been eight years now and I had no problems.I think I used Sikalastic®-1K

Interesting video - I'm not convinced there was any adhesion between the glass and the sealant though - you would probably need to coat the fittings in something prior to application so you got a seal but it looks as though you could end up with a pretty good finish. Why did you chose it over fiber glassing out of interest?

I had no choice, only Sika was available to me at that time. Even today very few people work with fiberglass because it is very expensive here

I know there are quite a few on here that have used various painted on finishes in their ponds. Is it always cost and availability that put you off getting a pond glassed or are there actually technical advantages to some of these newer paint on finishes.

Is glassing still the best pond finish you can get?
