Update on the Soil and rubble thieves.

Out of the original 300 sacks of clay, soil and rubble left out on the driveway, they have been reducing most days (I don't even bother checking the CCTV anymore), but seem to have stopped over the last 3 or 4 days.

There are now only 40 sacks left!

Not worth ordering a skip for that so not sure what I'll do with them.... just leave them a bit longer in the hope the thieves come back, and if they're still there when I feel a bit energetic, I'll do 3 or 4 car trips to the dump.

    Quite a result!

Seems like they have filled their own hole in Rs,so maybe you have to get rid on your own.

Frim, I felt a cold coming just as I got home from the last day at work before Christmas, which is pretty typical.

It just dragged and dragged like nothing I've ever had before. Lost all taste and smell by 27th December, until eventually had to go Doctors (first time I've ever been since moving here a few years ago) on 4th Feb. Told him what tablets I needed (We are Koi keepers after all, so self diagnosis is far easier than Koi diagnosis), and came home with 3 lots of tablets and a nasal spray.... Over £40 on the prescription.

Didn't get taste and smell back until a few days before starting pond extension at the end of Feb, and didn't feel 100% until about 1/4 the way through the build, so around 1st March ish.

Over 2 Months wasted just feeling like crap, and a waste of money getting a takeaway that you can't taste.

I know what you mean as I normally have a Madras on a Friday or Saturday night and the last few have not done the trick of clearing anything so last weekend I thought I'd risk a Vindaloo - that didn't help either. There's no way I'm going to go for a Phall BTW lol Thought the Vindaloo would help sweat it out but no such luck.

I've gone form having 2 to 3 good sized meals a day down to 1 reasonable sized meal a day.

I know it wasn't Ann, she got lost in your QT thread and hasn't found her way out yet lol!

As for the cover, can't remember what I've updated you all on, but I ordered it as stainless steel without the powder coating. Due for delivery in 2 weeks time, and a local firm said they'd powder coat it for £50! A saving of £137.

Only problem is, I'm not sure if it will fit in the car to get it there, but it should fit in my Dad's so will have to ask him for help.

Also have some bamboo plants, red ones and black ones, which will be planted in buckets between the pond and fence. They are pricey so only bought 2 small ones and will split them into 4 small ones, then have to wait for them to grow before splitting further. By next spring there should be a row of them the whole length of the pond. Will take some photos once they're planted.

Also had another idea with the mesh pond covers. Going to secure the covers down with these plates on the fence side of the pond, then fit gas struts to them so they just lift up (Couldn't buy them without the D rings, so will find another use for those):

First of all - shall we send out a search party for Anne or do you think she'll be happy in the QT for a bit longer? Hopefully if she gets out she can help clear the rest of my garage lol. Sorry Anne

Sounds like a bit of a result on the cover RS. Are the gas struts going to allow the covers to lift up until they are at 90 degrees to the top of the pond? If you later fit a pergola you could always fit some hook and loop devices to hold the covers up and sell the struts to get some money back? I'm guessing the cover is going to be made up of 2 or 3 sections so you can just lift the bit you need or is it going to be one big thing? Not sure gas struts will cope you made need hydraulic rams for one big cover LOL

Gas struts are only a fiver each so can afford to experiment.
They wouldn't lift the whole cover.... The covers are 2.5m (width of pond) and split in the middle, so you'd pull half the cover off from the patio side, then the struts would lift the other half 90 degrees upright.

So only lifting half the cover upright... 1250mm worth. I'll try and draw a sketch tonight.
