Oh Dear.
Fallen in love with Fish L out of this Tosai bowl from Gary, and only £40.
Kase Doitsu Metallic Ochibas grow up to be beautiful Koi.

In the video it's the one in the centre that rolls onto its side.
Already ordered 2 Koi since the extension which gives a total of 12 in 12000 litres. Really don't want to exceed that.... Someone please buy it so I can't have it.

That's not going to help keep the numbers down is it!
How many Koi is too many for a 12,000 litre pond on just a Nexus 220? (That question isn't to you John!!! ).
Plus I already have a metallic Ochiba, but not a Kase one, this one is from Katsumi:

I like that mate. Ochiba.
On the matter of to many fish. I have about 50 fish. Ok all not massive.
About 5 i call large. In 5000gal pond.
I think its about the filters
And how much you feed. I wanted 25 fish max. Some are 23 years old.
But what do you do. When the grand bains turn up with a mutt for your birthday. You can t say sorry son. I have to many. Take it away.
I can t anyway. Thats how i have got a hell of a lot more then i should have.
But the filters are coping.
But its border line

I like it Rs,nice pattern not too heavily marked as long as it doesn't spoil,go for it.
I have one Ochiba 2yrs old and he has kept his markings and a Tancho spot which I bought at the same size as yours.
Going to sulk now as I am not allowed to answer your question.John

This is why I excluded you John.... Yes, I have read this forum from the beginning, and there's too much evidence of you not decreasing numbers like your little promise from 2016:
This was the thread.... What on earth happened to the 1 koi per 250 gallons rule that I thought everyone strictly adhered to.

i always blame the wife for buying small fish that grow as my reason for being overstocked, although buying 15 various sized koi at once off a mate that wanted to pretty much start again last month didnt help hahaha, andi

You guys are terrible, I've only gone and bought it now.
Picking up in mid-May along with the Showa from a couple of pages back.
Feel a bit bad as my existing Ochiba is still on the bottom clamped up. That's the one who had 5 gill flukes in one scrape. Hoped the fluke solve would be kicking in by today (36 hrs post treatment). Not helped by temps which have dropped to 7C from 10C last week. The big Sanke hasn't sat on the bottom since the morning after I treated (albeit still with red veins and fins), its the smaller ones that seem to be struggling, although the one that was spitting food for the last few days ate yesterday, but goes back to being clamped on the bottom afterwards.

Temp this morning was 7.4 Freddy.
It was 8.2 yesterday.
Normally when its cold the bigger ones go down the bottom and the smaller ones keep swimming around.
Today the bigger ones are all swimming around and the smaller ones are at the bottom, 3 in total, 1 is only now and again, the Ochiba is clamped up in a corner but still comes for food when I walk past, and the pond filler runt is also clamped up in a corner, this is the one that was spitting food or not eating at all, but yesterday he ate without spitting, then went to the bottom and clamped up again afterwards.
Not seen a single flash from any since treating... its possible that the flukes have been hit, but maybe it'll take a while for the damage they've caused to heal.
The worst part is not knowing if there's another parasite that I couldn't get on the scrapes.... hoping its only flukes and the treatment will work. Only time can tell.
Where did the flukes come from???
Well, I've not publicly posted this before, but as there's just a small crowd following this thread I will say.
When I very first built the pond I bought 3 Tosai pond fillers from Koi Water Barn. Within a few days they were showing symptoms... bought microscope, scraped.... and there was gill flukes!
KWB assured me he'd recently treated his whole stock for flukes and there was none left, but where else could they have possibly come from?
Paying all this money on treatments to treat a brand spanking new pond. Frustrating.
Treated lots of times through April, May and June to make sure all the flukes were gone. Fish were fine after that and I never scraped again.
In November I bought Koi from a forum member.
Now I have flukes again.....did the original ones never get killed off, or did I introduce more flukes with these forum koi? Will never really know.
Then Pip posts that he has Costia for the first time ever.... He also bought Koi from the same forum member.... Did they bring Costia to his pond or did he already have Costia.... Will never really know.
Could mine have Costia??? I've been wondering, but couldn't find any on scrapes.
Just frustrating really and I want it resolved before "growing season" is upon us, as my filters are ready, food supplies are stocked up, and I want my fish to stretch a lot.

RS you say that some of your fish (maybe only one or two) are spitting food out? I had the same thing last year in May or June? I had been reading a thread on here about the same problem which turned out to be related to either low O2 levels or high Nitrite levels. OK at this time of year unless you are over stocked your O2 levels shouldn't be a problem but I know you have had problems getting your Nitrite levels down. Just a thought as sometimes you can overlook the obvious. You may find that some of your fish are more susceptible than others to any changes and then pick up things the other fish don't?

Nitrite has been zero Frim. Been testing every day since filling extended pond.
Think my Koi must be immune to Nitrite by now... It was 2 ppm all last summer. In all fairness they showed very little ill-effects. I even bought 3 test kits as I couldn't believe there was no symptoms.
On the other hand, if ammonia hits 0.25 they are flashing all over the place (8.2 PH makes it feel much worse for them), yet if you measure ammonia in the bag water on a Koi delivery from Japan it can be as high as 10ppm. Yep, 10 ppm!!!! It is the very low PH that stops them dying. That's why you shouldn't put the bag water in the pond.
