Thread: Change Of Plan

    Change Of Plan

    Hi guys,

i had had originally planned to join three ponds together to make a sunken informal pond.

Two Atlantis Marlins, one at each end, and a running river pond in the middle.

Plan was to cut them, make them deeper and join the three together.

However, after a little trip into Selective Koi, the Doris changed my mind.

Go Formal, so in a flash, I sold the ponds and got this!

Atlantis Ocean, current status 5m x2m x800 deep. Approx 4500L.

plan is to bury this and glass up to deepen it.

I know it’s the wrong time of year to do any glass work, but the main groundwork’s can be achieved.

Fitting two bottom drains, fitting and connection of Vor Tec 30,000, Pumps and UV

Brickwork and pipework can be done, and then glass up when it gets warmer again.

Any further hints and tips welcome!

How are you getting it to the back of the house, lol. Sorry poor sense of humour. Sounds like a plan. Good luck we might have a mild winter, I would get the digging done asap before the frost gets here though, it's a bitch when the first 12 to 18 inches is frozen lol.

It looks like you could take to sea in it lol.

Once up and running do you intend to net it? Otherwise you will need to consider cairfuly what to do with the "Heron shelf" best not to give the blighter anyware to stand in the pond!

There’s just enough room at the back to stand there.
brushes can be reached at Vortex end.
Drains at base of each chamber to valves.
main drain will be extended to take up valve outputs

    Thanks John!

Top soil was pretty healthy until half way across, and then I found out why it always puddled in the shed end and grass would die.

Basically, it was mostly compacted clay subsoil, and a dumping ground for bags of mortar by the developer.

Next stage, dig out subsoil ready to insert pond base with bottom drains and pipes

363D2D78-21B4-4612-A88E-0877CCCBD730.jpgDeveloper has wakkaplated about 2” of large gravel over a bed of sand.
No wonder the garden always flooded in the winter.
    very hard going by hand.

Decided to hire E12961F4-11E7-4368-93B7-CEB77F00F386.jpga mini digger as the layer of gravel was actually 4” in places. Even the digger struggled, but the hole is now dug!
