Flexible pipe for pond returns
Hi
I am about to sort out the filter bay now the pond finally got done. To return water to the pond I have some long runs and curves to negotiate. So to avoid lots of elbows I am thinking a continuous run of flexible. So what is available I think the black ribbed stuff only goes up to 1.5" I was thinking more like 2" would be better.

You can get 2" but its not that flexible i would do it in solvent weld waste pipe the flexi in extreme weather conditions does go brittle

I've got approx. 9000L /hr running through 1.5 inch thick rubber pipes with no problems. They are so much easier to work with than laying solid plastic pipes.

I thought this may happen, two posts and two opinions......I think it's easier to dig in the flexibility stuff, for years I was hard pipe only but is it really necessary with modern flexible stuff that's out there.

You can get different quality flexible pipe - the easily available and most flexible type (generally black) is available as 2" but does go brittle and split after a few years but having it buried preserves it for quite a long time. I would go for the better quality stuf myself though in your application. What I have done is put in 4" conduit (black ribbed stuff used for electrics ext.) and then run flexible through that.

By the way the better quality stuff is generally sold as suction hose and is available via eBay. I did look at using 3" flexible which is available via specialists but I couldn't find any suitable fittings for it so decided to add a second 2" instead.

Here is a link for different hoses, though as said above not the best,i use the thicker walled one but cant find a link for it,this one is fine and as you said a lot easier to lay and if kept out of the sun will last a long time.John

I get all mine from South Yorkshire Aquatics if you live anywhere near Doncaster- Bawtry area.
Nice thick rubber pipes not the weak corrugated stuff

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
