Small update.
The good things:
- finished area next to the filter house and almost all other parts of the garden
- new valve installed in the bottom area of the drum - now I can empty water in the drum itself
- new valve installed for the BIO chamber - can easily empty it now
- all airlifts are now converted into protein skimmers - dirty water comes at the end of the system - nice addition to the bio chamber
- soundproofing of the air pumps pit almost done
- led indication of the pond electric fence status
The bad things:
Somwhere in the middle of August airlifts started to loosing water flow, day by day it was worse. To the point where almost no water flow was visable. I didn't know what caused it. Checked all the airlifts - they were like new. No debris or other garbage stucked inside. Checked all the inlets from the pond - all ok. So I ordered bigger air pumps - Secoh JDK-S-80. Reinstalled 5 of the airlifts. Now it is all ok. Flow is much greater than on the JECOD PA-60 air pumps. With those pumps 5 airlifts are enough to run all the pond. I do not know why on the JECOD it stopped working at all. Maybe they have worn out? I do not know. Any ideas?
Another strange thing is the one of the airlifts has less water flow than the other ones (50% maybe). Tested it with the same air pump. Now it is closed, 5 of them are enough.
I am curious if this situation come back after some time, with new air pumps.
So to sum it up - airlifts are great - when they work properly. But this is tricky to do - at least when you have 6 of them. Maybe with the smaller qtty it would be easier.Last edited by slickbe; 24-10-2020 at 06:12 PM.

Does the air run directly from the end of the airline pipe or do they run through air stones?

Directly from the end of the airline pipe - 1.5 mm holes (if I remember corectly), 4 rows, spacing 1 cm.
Sorry about the pictures attached - something is wrong with web forum.

Just a thought here if you need so much air why not get a proper compressor to run the lot. Then you are not relying on multiple koi air pumps which don't really do an efficient job of pumping air. Tool compressor with a reservoir would work.

Andy, it is too loud for me. I have one in my bike shop, even the quieter version on v-belts - still very loud. Second thing - I do not believe it is meant for non-stop usage like the air pumps are.

Hi all!
It has been some time from the last post, so here is the update.
Early spring I had to remove all those air lifts. It turned out that they are killing air pumps way too fast. I sent one of the totally broken SECOH pump for expertise, and they told me it wore off completely - 5 times faster then normal or even more - they said. They also suggested that the pup was working below its optimal working range, but this was not true for me. Air outlet depth was about 1,7 - 1,8m below water level - when the max optimum is 2m depth.
So now I have 5x new 110 tube pumps, variable, 12v, extra energy saving - from China. I set them on 66% of power giving me about 500W total - moving 100m3 of water per hour. Not bad for me. Finally I am very happy about the flow.
Next improvement is plexiglass wall (15cm tall) around the entire pond. It prevents fish to jump off the pond area. During spring it also blocks enter for all the frogs - which were totally mess for me this year. They were sucked by the skimmers, then stuck inside a drum. Some of them put their eggs inside. Also UV-C inside the drum was not so healthy for them, some of them died after taking this "sun bath". Will post some pictures of the wall later.
I have tested the water parameters this morning and they are as follow (may not be very accurate - first time using new measuring tool - EXACT ECO CHECK):
- TEMP / 20 Celsius
- PH / around 7
- KH (alkalinity) / 130 ppm
- NITRITE / 0,85 ppm
- NITRATE / 15,3 ppm
- AMMONIA / 0,26 ppm
- TOTAL HARDNESS / 249 ppm
- PHOSPHATE / says LOW - below measurements range (0,01 - 4 ppm)
Referring to the last parameter I think there are some PHOSPHATES because lately blanket weed has started to grow a little bit again.
About the algae (blanket weed) I have tested 30% hydrogen peroxide (for swimming pools) - works great, kills all the algae but after use, water is cloudy for about 7-10 days - not cool.
Now I am in the middle of testing salicylic acid. It is commonly used in many anti-algae products, but they are bloody expensive. Especially when you have to use them for over 100m3 of water. So I bought pure salicylic acid - several dozen times cheaper. Will post results within next two weeks.
Regards!

I found out that I made AMMONIA test incorrect. Proper value is 0.07 ppm. I forgot to add 3 drops of reagent during test

I am thinking also of buying medium bakki shower plus those media - https://koi-company.de/teichfilter/f...erienhaus.html
