It was from JBR Plastics, I sent them an email on Friday, but it was late, so I haven't heard back from them, they are usually very good, its just unfortunate that this is the second item I have received damaged, not their fault, its just shipping, it wouldn't matter haw much packing they put around it and it was well packaged, if you drop something like that or ram a pallet against it, it will get damaged, i'll wait till Monday and give them a call if i don't hear from them, but I am sure I will.

Worst case i'll drive to Liverpool and get them to repair it

Very little work done today, however I did cut out for the skimmer in its new position, I wished I hadn't of made such a good job of the blockwork, what a pain that was to get out.

    WP_20180707_17_42_49_Pro_LI.jpg

I have also put up a roof to keep the sun and the rain off the pond whilst the fiberglassing is being done, not the prettiest of pergolas but its functional

Bottom drain pipework has been diverted to the new position, not very happy with the route but at this late stage its the best of a bad job.

New returns have also been started, 2" to the opposite side of the skimmer

3" pipe installed from the Filter room to the Bakki shower position, I only used 3" because I had it lol

Old 1-1/2" return removed from the old skimmer position as this will now be exposed so I will move it closer to the new skimmer position which will be in the filter room, keeping things nice and neat

I didn't really get a lot done today due to being on standby for a customer in Somerset, just waiting for a phone call to travel down to look at a problem, they kept saying they would ring back but the never did, so I've not really been able to get stuck into anything today, I still don't know yet if I have to go tomorrow, its only 3 hour drive away lol

But I did manage to get hold of JBR about the skimmer, they are having lots of problems with carriers at the moment braking things, so if you have anything from them, check it before the driver leaves and if its damaged, sign to say it is or its not covered by the carriers insurance. anyway a new skimmer will be on its way as soon as it is built

The skimmer hole has been set to the coping stone level, not that I know what coping stones we are having, also the old skimmer position has been bricked up

    WP_20180709_14_48_24_Pro_LI.jpg WP_20180709_14_48_42_Pro_LI.jpg

All the return pipes are in and the ones that needed moving have been moved and fixed into position with banding, I have cut back the cement around the pipe so that I can fill the cap with chemical resin filler to hopefully bond it so it doesn't move, any movement on the outside of the pipe effects the seal between pipe and fibreglassing, I'm really getting paranoide about the pipe to fiberglass connection, so I'm going overboard with fixings and resin bonding

I had some spare time tonight so I thought I would give the insulation a go, I don't want to do all the way down to the ground just in case we have any rain whilst I'm away next week, if the pond fills up it will soak into the insulation, so I've just done around the top for now

One tube of pink grip per sheet and I have run a bead on all the joints before i fitted them together, i'll seal the joints with tape just to give a nice finish

Trickle dechlorinator is now installed, what a pain it was to do, The reason is that I want it hard plumbed in rather than hose pipe, so I was searching though all my fittings to get it connected and typically I didn't have any stainless steel 3/4 couplings, I only had brass, which I didn't want to use, so I ended up bodging it in just to get it running, I needed to get it going as I'm on holiday next week and I wanted the trickle working before then, so it now goes from the MDPE 1/2" valve to 12mm air tube to 8mm air tube to a Flow Restrictor to 8mm air tube to 12mm air tube to hose pipe and then hose pipe to 12mm air tube to 8mm air tube to the temporary pond

It works that's the main thing and I now know what bits I need to get it done properly

The pond will be protected from frost and ice by a heat exchanger, the heat exchanger is only for keeping the water from freezing, it is not to heat the pond to a set temperature

So this is what I propose to do, the heat exchanger will sit in the filter room, normally in summer it will be bypassed and drained, in winter I fill it and put it into service, the heating will be from the underfloor heating zone as I can easily add extra zones to that and it can easily be set to run 24 hours a day from its own thermostat and thermostatic zone zone controller, the pond will have its own thermostat and also the ambient air thermostat and controlled by the ponds PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), the PLC will control water and air temperatures as will as other things on the ponds automation.

I have cables to the house for power and controls 2 x 2.5mm 4 core and 1 x 1.5mm 24 core as well as Ethernet and 24-volt supplies

The pipework will be 15mm barrier pipe that I am already using for my underfloor heating and this will be installed in a 110mm underground drain pipe directly into the filter room, teh pipes will be fully insulated all the way to the heat exchanger, isolation and bleed valves fitted as if it was a normal radiator

We had to go shopping today to get some more pipe bends and we got absolutely soaked on the way out, i'm not used to rain anymore, anyway I made me think that the temporary cover over the pond wasn't quite good enough, it was primarily a sun cover but now it needs to be a rain cover, so I spent quite some time today redoing it, its all held down by 8mm stainless steel bolts and chemically anchored into the wall lol

I have also finished the last return off, this now ends in the filter room

I did a bit more on the insulation, I have sealed the bottom with aluminium tape just in case water gets in to the pond whilst we are away, so hopefully it won't do any damage

    WP_20180713_18_47_50_Pro_LI.jpg WP_20180713_18_47_53_Pro.jpg WP_20180713_18_48_02_Pro_LI.jpg WP_20180713_18_48_25_Pro_LI.jpg WP_20180713_18_48_30_Pro_LI.jpg

The returns have been lift proud but I have trimmed the insulation back around them so that when they fiberglass they will have to fill the void with fiberglass filler, this will mean that 25-30mm of the pipe will be surrounded in fiberglass so this should give a greater area for the fiberglass to bond to the pvc pipe

So as some of you may know, I am building a 5500 gallon pond, so I am starting from scratch to a certain extent, I have setup a temporary pond to house my fish and that is running a KLK Filtreau 30 Hi flow Drum filter followed by a 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1, all will be moved over to the new pond when complete, my stocking levels are low at the moment until I move to the new pond

So to sum it up, I currently have:

    • 5500 gallon new pond
    • KLK Filtreau 30 Hi flow Drum filter
    • JBR Plastics 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1

So onto the question, do I:
    A - Keep the JBR Plastics 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1 and add a 1 meter Bakki shower with media
    B - Ditch the 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber and have a bigger Bio chamber made, then increase the K1

Opinions please as I need to make the financial decision soon and get this ordered

I've started a poll on the following link
