Ordered a sample and see how it looks and fit on my block work which is 5 blocks high around 54cm and the tile height is 30cm so will means cutting a full size tile to around 24cm. Not looking forward to that tbh.

Ok thanks. I will check once I have the sample and see how it fits and if it will involve a lot of cuttings and wastages. Might have to look at plain rectangular tiles instead.

Just watched ep12 of your video on Youtube and the bit where you raised the Pond wall with concrete or mortar? Was that to raise the wall height so that 2 sections of the tiles can fit with out cutting?

Hi eifion.
I have watched all your you tube vids and how you bounced back from that disaster Is totally exemplary. I live in Pontypridd and have been building over the last 5 months a very similar build to yours albeit a bit smaller. I have decking all around also. I'm at the point of buying liner and was googling and you tubing stuff and came across your pond build. I was devastated when I came to the point where your pond collapsed.
Did you get any confirmation of the original problem as my build is very similar to yours. Any feedback would be much appreciated.. Thanks ryanIMG_20180731_211405.jpgIMG_20180804_175259.jpgIMG_20180902_184510.jpgIMG_20180911_185544.jpgIMG_20180708_183608.jpgIMG_20180911_185633.jpgIMG_20180923_192330.jpgLast edited by Binary1927; 10-10-2018 at 09:08 PM.

Hello Ryan, it looked very much as the main problem with my pond was the mortar dried too quickly during that really hot spell of weather we had. You could see the line of weakness in the walls where it gave way .
It does look like your pond is smaller so it will have less pressure on the walls .
We did have a structural engineers report done which has helped give peace of mind.
Hope this helps, good luck with the build .

Received the sample and did a rough calculation and to cover the walls will need 2 tiles and also either raise the height of the walls by 70mm or cut the top tile to fit. Cutting the tiles shouldn't be a problem with an electric tile cutter so might go this route instead raising the walls which will involve making up some shuttering boards to surround the walls and mixing concrete by hand which I don't look forward to tbh.

Hi eifion. Thanks for the reply. Your pond looks superb now mate. That's the main thing.
I was mixing my cement in the hot weather also so I hope its OK.it was drying out quick for me also but I was adding water to keep it fresh. Time will tell I guess.
Thanks for the info mate.
If my pond comes out half as nice as yours I will be well happy..
All the best
Ryan

Hi Eifion, I am ready to order the tiles (like yours) and regarding the gaps and type of grout to use to make it blend in as close as possible to the tiles, did you use medium grey grout as suggested by them in their reply to a customer question. Also did you use any grout between the top and bottom tile at all? They also suggested using 1-2mm spacers between tiles too. I am thinking stacking them on top of one another or is that not a good idea? Thanks again for your help.

Did my first water test, thankfully looking OK .
And, a walkthrough of my filter setup . Will probably add it to next year but should be OK for now . Thinking of adding a bakki shower over the moving bed filter .

Thanks for keeping my spirits up during the ups and downs of my build, you always manage to make me laugh out loud .

Hello John, thanks for the message, all good here
Really happy with the pond, nothing much to report , no real problems . I did have one heart stopping moment when the pond level dropped by several inches in about an hour, thankfully it was simply due to me positioning the float switch too high in the drum filter . After its cleaning cycle the water level remained below the float switch so the pump for jet wash kept on running, emptying the pond ……
The fish clearly don't like the colder weather, they're sulking at the bottom of the pond . They were kept in a heated tank before I bought them, the water was down to around 8 degrees earlier today .
I'd like to insulate the pond walls and the pipes and get some polycarbonate sheeting to cover the pond but it's difficult finding time at the moment .
There's another video in the pipeline, just not enough to fill it without repeating some of the older stuff again . Maybe I'll get out a Christmas special
Hope all is good with you John and everyone else on the forum . You all really helped get me through the challenges I had with the build ( even Anne ).
Here's one I took looking down from the mountain side, no need for a drone …..

And some wildlife, the frog wasn't too happy when I moved the log pile

Looks like paradise Eifion you are a lucky guy living there i am very envious.
Glad everything is ok as for the drum these things are sent to try us,just think ahead towards the spring and your koi will be fine.
Look forward to the video Eifion,i think you said you would do one of the filters and we all enjoyed the past ones.
Maybe a bit of insulation on the exposed walls would be good now everything has settled down and not too hard to do.
Glad family are ok take care and dont be too long with the next video as we all enjoy them and i am sure Anne is getting excited.John
