Up the lane was very very tight.
Driver was roped in at last minute. He told me he usually drives the large HGV but was roped in as there short on drivers today.
Glad it’s down. Bricky can’t make it for two weeks so it looks like I will do it myself.
How long should I leave before I start. I can’t leave spray on it today as we’re off out.
Be back around 5 ish so will give it a good soak then.

It should have gone off enough to walk on and start laying some blocks by tomorrow. Happy days.
The first course tends to take ages since you need a lot more mortar to get it all dead level than in subsequent courses. Good luck with the block laying- doing mine nearly finished off my back though LOL.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Some cracking in the concrete when we got back.
Ive sprayed it with water to keep it damp.
It doesn't look very level. Water pooling on one side and it looks lower in the corner than the bottom drain.
What mortor mix. 3-1, 4-1, or 5-1
I plan to start at the high point and work from there.
what height should I plan the returns from the bottom of the pond?
The pond is going to be insulated with 2 inch on the base I think.
Thanks

Nice one on the base. My returns are at about 12 inch. 10 inch sounds good. You don t want to low or to high. On your returns. Enough to move the bottom circulation.

Excuse my ignorance.
Does return depth really matter?
I ask because in a gravity fed situation using airlifts for the return, those return pipes would typically be at surface level. Likewise if thr return was through something like a shower the return would be above surface level...

Im glad I did my returns at that as the water cuming back into the pond would disturb the surface!! 2 close 2 the bottom and in winter there would b no Warmer part of the pond unless your heating!!

Thanks ScottsKoi, I understand. Isn't water surface disturbance generally a good thing for aeration and stimulating the fish?
Or is it all a matter of personal preference?

You need to move crud on the bottom and move the water around. And also to allow fish to have a resting place. Each setup is different.
So a differant way. For my pond. There exactly right at that hight. Also my pond is round.
Some people have. Mid returns. That suit there ponds. Not bottom returns. Because it suits there ponds.
Mine was planned with two things in mind. Bottom drain and enough movement for skimmer. Where my spindrifter ties in with this. For surface cleanSent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

It's going to be a while until I get 10 inch from the top at the speed I'm laying these blocks.
It took me about 9 hours to work out best layout for blocks and lay about 12.
Concrete not very level so there's lots of mortar for the first course. I hope the next 16 are much easier

first course is always a nightmare unless you get a perfect base, the rest will fly up,one of reasons mine will be first course as foundations are still wet and why im dry stacking hollows with rebar in,stack and fill lol, keep the photos coming lol, andi

You were fooling us with your nice neat hole and clean site before weren't you!
Now it looks like a proper building site with scattered trip hazards, discarded tools, a toppled mixer stand, and the ubiquitous 1 ton bags!
Jobs a good 'un!

Oh yes. Full risk assessment carried out and completely ignored.
To much health and safety going on now.
If your repairing a urinal which has a 6 inch step your classed as working at height.
You could fall and suffer personal injury.
If if you fall off a urinal and you've not had a few then you deserve a personal injury
