    Shed n temp pond advice

    Advice please..

Seeing that im having a filter shed etc and then upgrading the pond over a period of time im comtemplating of building a temp indoor pond to house the koi this will then help me to plan properly the pond build..

Now seeing that im having an 8x8 shed of which the filter will take 2ft im wondering about moving the koi into the shed..
Im thinking of a 5ft long 3.5ft high by 3.5ft width build to house them in......

What are the pros n cons of indoor koi pond......
I also intend to use the indoor as a quarantine setup aswell once the koi go bk into their nice new pond.....
Plus do i go for a block build or a wooden build.......
The indoor pond will run off my current filtration system.
    Advice much appreciated......

i would just get a fibreglass tank,i have one in my filter house that holds 500g and i think thats about the size your thinking, problems you will have are,if your heating you will get condensation, not good in a wood shed, need a trickle in/out to keep water fresh, consider where your water to feed this is coming from,i have a hosepipe going to my filter house which also feeds a supply to my chickens, this froze over past week so i suggest a lot of insulation on all pipework, and insulate the shed,B&Q do a roll of silver stuff you could just attach with battens, this would stop or help with condensation, andi

you have a really slow trickle from mains through a dechlorinator going in and an overflow on opposite side of tank, this puts a constant flow of fresh water into it,you only need like a litre an hour so it is a trickle, andi

lost on which bit lol,the thing with small ponds or qt is that they tend to get overstocked, now maybe you have a huge filter thinking this will sort it,but what you have to consider is you may take the pooh out but the ammonia and other chemicals can build up,it would be like leaving your toilet for a week, taking any number twos out but leaving everything else in,then someone asking you to get a wash in it,would you???,a constant slow trickle of fresh water going in dilutes everything down and as your putting fresh in then your sending some dirty out by having an overflow, this means your fish are getting cleaner water to live in and less chance of things like ammonia and nitrate/nitrite spikes,,dont know how else to explain it lol,i got told years ago that our ponds are just toilets we look after lol,and without regular cleaning and flushing they go nasty, hope this helped, andi

hi ant i don t think its a good idea to have a QT running from same filters as your pond. should be separate filtration in my opinion.
if you get a bacteria problem in the pond. you would be letting it trans-fare from pond to qt. which defeats the object in my opinion.
if my fish are ill with infection. i know there going into a complete clean system.
mine is a wooden shed. i have a heater in the easy pod.K! and 2 x 100 ltr water butts. grog jap mat and wool .500 gallon. i am adding a trickle shower in the summer.
i don t trickle in or out. i do in the pond. i have 8 fish in there right now. growing on. 3 fish 13 inches. and the others between 8 to 10 inch. i water change 20% once a week.
water runs through 3 pod dechorinater. i still add ST. as i still get light traces of chlorine . to beat the condensation i have a shed heater set at 26c so higher then my tank heater at 20c.
    this keeps the condensation down.

andikoi exsplained the trickle in very good. you have a hose pipe say. with a tap on. and time into a jug over 1 minute. 1 ltr of water. so you play with tap until you get it right. or spot on. so your now trickling in water. at 1 ltr a minute. now that water has to go some where or you will over flow out of tank all over your shed floor. so tou need it to go some where just like your house sink. over flow.
you have to have a water level. so you put the overflow to drain. just above the water hight. by drilling a hole and put a pipe in and attatch a pipe to sewage drains
    hope this helps

Perhaps i didnt explain everything correctly in my OP..
The pond filter is going into the new shed once it is built i then intend to house the koi inside the shed connected to the exsisting flitration whilst the pond gets sorted....

Once the pond is up n running i will work out some form of filtration for what will be a QT setup in the shed....

    Hope that explains it more....

Yes i read something similar about aquariums by a guy who know his stuff with regards to Malawi cichlids etc.......
Pond....Aquariums are basically a toilet that houses live creatures ie koi or neons etc and they require regular constant cleaning by diluting the water as after all what we do is dilute what is in those vessels...
