Pagodas - span and timber size
So I was thinking - I have to have a roof structure to protect the build and fibreglassing later, and one option is to simply put in a pagoda. If you imagine a triangle area - front is basically 5 meters and the span to the back of the area is 3-3.5m.
My gut feeling is that is quite a heavy beam at the front to span the 5m and to support the weight of wood required to span 3.5m.
Does anyone have any design/rules of thumb for this type of build?

No designs or rule of thumb, but I've used 6x2 timber for two builds this year, both 4.2 meters long by 3.5m wide. I used 2x 4" by 4" at the front and 3 at the rear, very solid! The first build was for a pubshed extension and I used 6x2 for the roof beams but on the pegola over the pond I scaled them down to 4x2's
Cheers

On my pergola, I have 4 x 4 uprights. I've bolted them to the wall of the pond, and stop about a foot from the ground. Like Jay I have two uprights on the front and three on the back of the pond.
As they don't sit on the floor around the pond or the copings of the pond, this prevents the bottom end sitting on wet surfaces I'm hoping this will help preserve the wood better.
I have two 4.2m long cross beams, one going across the front of the pond and one along the back. These support all the beams (7 in total).
I went for 4x2 for the cross beams, but with hindsight should've gone for 6 x 2 as they're bowing in the middle due to the weight of the beams sitting on them.
To reinforce the crossbeams, I put up another 4 x 2 cross beam directly under the first one. So my cross beams are now technically 8 x 2.
My beams for the pergola are 4 x 2 (running front to back).
I designed the pergola so the beams jut out over the front of the pond by around 50cm.
As I put 10mm bronze poly carb panels between the beams, this means I can stand at the front of the pond and be sheltered by the rain. It also helps keep the sun off the pond window. So worth considering on your build.
Hope this is of some use.

13,000L fibreglassed raised pond with window
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
