Changes afoot today.
Filter and everything inside the garage dismantled and drum lowered a bit.
Next job requires 2 people to manoeuvre bio chamber into position and marry up with drum level then I can rejig a return pipe so awaiting assistance from one of the sprogs. Rory tried his best but he’s only 2 1/2 and ended up causing me more grief than I needed so stopped for the afternoon.
Anoxic baskets to make up then away we go.

Bigcarpchaser finally gets his bum into gear!
Well, it’s a mission washing this sodding cat litter!!!
Was doing it for about 2 hours, sieving then rinsing and only ended up making 3.
Does the grey rinsing water ever disappear????

Look on the bright side 3 down only another 21 to go.

Looking good though, keep up the good work

Nope.
When I’ve read what other people have used it’s about 3 per bag. There’s a lot of very fine particles that get rinsed out as waste. They’d end up in the pond otherwise.
I’d already worked out I needed 6 bags at least.

Well, there were 12 baskets lol
Aquabasis was ok. There’s 5kg in a bag.
Pebbles prob only do 4 unless you place them particularly well by hand.
I’ve grabbed some standard polished pebbles from Keber for the rest, cheap as chips. They just need a rinse off. Those turtle pebbles are well pricey.

Hey can you not just fill your baskets and the fill the chamber and flush it to waste. Be easier than washing it all.

I’ve no idea
I’m not sure “how much” dust and fine particles is supposed to come out.
I don’t particularly want a pond full of grey crappy water in a weeks time.
I have the “dunk in big bucket method” to try on the next lot.

Bigcarpchaser finally gets his bum into gear!
That’s what I’ve effectively been doing.
You end up with grey milky water and sludge lol

Maybe a strange question but does the cat litter float? I know it's a similar thing to laver rock and it's absorbant so must have air holes in it? So what happens if you chuck it in a a builders bucket and give it a good stir?

That's a shame. Looks like it's back to the drawing board then. That must be like a busman's holiday to you lol

Yeah I think you're right to want to rinse as much fine crap off it as possible, could be extremely annoying if it affected the pond clarity!

Isn't it just like adding clay to the water, could help clump all the crap together and leave your pond super nice
