No worries mate, after I dropped Rory off at preschool I had a few hours work i needed to cram in. Just coming to the end of a big project and the client is changing stuff...again. Obviously they want all the changes done NOW and for free, bastards

Bigcarpchaser finally gets his bum into gear!
Clematis are sooo easy to grow mate, be careful though the montana varieties are fast and pretty big. They Call them mile a minutes ha ha look beautiful though when in flower but the flower doesnt last long and they drop a fair bit of mess like flowers dying off and dead wood.
Forget climbing roses mate, they aren’t friendly, nightmare when cutting back and again any dropping in your pond is a potential fish impaler i have a few clamatis around the garden and also a climbing rose on the garage. The rose is lovely in flower but im glad its no where near the pond.

Cheers Lee, might steer clear of the clematis near the pond but put some next to the one of the decks instead.
Remembering now I’ve put a concrete collar round the bottom couple of courses I don’t have much in the way of topsoil left now so might have to resort to putting some planters on the copings and growing something out of those.
Can water them straight from the pond too so maybe that could work?

Only thing with planters on top of the copings is when you water them they will potentially free drain onto your copings and inevitably into your pond mate.
You will be surprised how little soil some plants actually need you could put some planters around the bottom of the wall though? Either way im sure you will work something out bud, furns always look nice near water imo and you cant beat a few japanese acers around which do better in pots etc.. in the uk unless you have more acidic ground soil.
Clematis are excellent screening climbers though and are very resilient to cutting back a darker more red leafed variety can add some oriental feel if thats where your going.
Glad your back on top with the pond though mate thats the main, really admire your grit and determination yo not let it beat you after the disaster that happened.

Can't find your original post about what to plant and where you want to plant it, but I went for Bamboo as a screen in the gap between the pond and fence.
Got 3 different clump forming types, black stem, olive stem and red stem, Once its established it will look nice, sounds nice in the breeze too.
I planted them in buckets, 6 in total along the length of the pond, with bricks over the drain holes so the roots can't escape and cause damage. Easy to maintain and looks good around the pond. They don't shed leaves much either.
Also have a red Acer in a planter, and a Salix flamingo tree, again, perfect for around the pond.
And just bought some jasmine climbers which are near the pond - Asda doing them for £8 each.Last edited by RS2OOO; 27-05-2019 at 03:04 PM.

Thanks mate, we’re getting there now.
Managed to get the copings on over the weekend in between the myriad of other jobs chasing after Rory and a bbq with the neighbours. There isn’t enough hours in the day at the moment
Next job, seal the mortar and give it a coat of G4, after that I’ve rigged up a double valves overflow. One exit to waste, the other will run through a flexible hose round the back of the garden to a 4m length of drilled plastic pipe which I’m hoping will irrigate a flower bed. Might be a disaster, might work a treat seems a shame to waste the water.
I’ll heed your advice about pots on the copings, I didn’t think about the run off so ta for that mate.
Will get Charlie Dimmock (as I now call Mrs BCC) to instigate planting of some shrubbery based on your advice also, I’m liking the sound of it. I have a few acers already looking for homes so that’s one plant type crossed off the list
Bit of a delay with the fill now as Mrs has decided we need to go on holiday...end of next week!! Given my last disaster I’m a bit reluctant to leave it full for a week with only number 1 Son house sitting so will do that when I get back. It’ll get finished eventually and I’ll still beat Frim lol

You cant go wrong with acers round the pond, the pots can sit on saucers specially for the purpose so no run off and ferns look great as well.
Even a piece of driftwood looks great.John

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
