Bigcarpchaser finally gets his bum into gear!

    Something happening....at last.
Had approval from the financial controller for new pond but had to compromise on size. Apparently 6x3m was inappropriate for the size of the garden so settled for 3.8x3.8 with a corner chamfer.
Should be around 3500g when done.
Hole dug, muck away been today so my neighbours can stop rolling their eyes skywards as that’s about the 10th one we’ve had since starting our “Grand Designs” project 2 years ago. Since then we’ve been interrupted by the both of little Rory which scuppered things for 6 months but nearly done now. Was laying the patio and rebuilding the front garden wall where the previous spoil piled up and busted it however, the weather is rubbish for laying bricks and concreting so got the lads to dig me a pond to keep them warm.
Construction is going to be pretty simple, concrete slab, trenchblock walls, small window on the chamfer facing the house. Will probably clad the blocks in timber to look like sleepers. Fibreglassing the inside
4” bottom drain and skimmer from Jase of JBR (which has turned up today) into drum - K1 and drum - shower.
Will be returning shower into K1 then all back to pond via low level returns in 2”. It looks ok on my computer screen so must be fine Mrs BCC has convinced me it won’t overflow.
Filters in garage remote from pond and I’ve allowed to heat from my boiler but will take a view when I’m up and running how that’s going to work.
No brickies for a while now as they’re off on another job so it might be a painfully slow build but I’m in no rush.
Might build the K1 chamber out of something myself if I get the time, if not then I’ll get JBR to knock up something.
I have “office hands” and a brain that doesn’t communicate with them when it comes to doing anything remotely DIY so it will be a challenge to say the least. I can put together things from IKEA so how hard can it be?
Was going to try airlifts but last minutes decision on location and size have scuppered this idea. PM coming your way Trace.
Looking forward to conversing with Mark on here about his QK22 as that’s looking like the way I’m going and his setup is pretty much what I’m looking to emulate.

I know a few of you appreciate a good “mound of earth” photo

I’d like to thank everyone that has helped me since being on here, especially JK.
You’re a grumpy old git mate but I like that Bigcarpchaser finally gets his bum into gear!

Edit...the 4" waste isn't for my BD by the way, that's popping in to take waste from drum

Why my neighbours love us...this was a couple of days after we started our project...2 wagons, 1 loading the other one. This is in a little cul de sac where the oldies have a little moan about each other putting their bins out a day early.
Plenty of curtain twitching gone on.
Luckily the couple that are flipping g weird and have never spoken to us in the 3 years we’ve been here have just moved out and a “normal” family have taken up residence.

    Daddies little “helper”
    His older brothers are useless

i had the same with the neighbours even had them report me to the council and the police for not asking her permission to put all my soil outside my own house, then when i had the cement pumped for my base she blocked the lorry in with her car as i did not ask her if it was ok to have it done on a saturday morning

she was outside in the snow yesterday washing her car lol

Lol that’s what I meant, people in the office building think I’m grumpy but actually I’m really happy...I’m just a realistically cynical grumpy happy person generally.
Keep it simple and life is pretty straightforward eh?

Quick question as I know sod all about plumbing.
Going with 2x2" returns. I might add in a "spare" while I'm about it, but am I right in thinking that if they're at opposing ends of the pond (pointing clockwise round the BD) I can run a 2" from the return pump then tee off to each individual return and balance with ball valves?
My longest run is going to be around 8m and the shortest is 4m.(from pump...will pick one with some ooooomph obvioulsy). Will try and minimise the number of bends

Yes. Just make sure at least one is always fully open otherwise you’re putting unnecessary load on the pump.
You’ll still be able to balance the flow.
If you can figure out which one will have the highest flow you only need one valve on that one.

    Getting somewhere now!

Have a load of 12mm steel rods in the corners. Anchored in with resin just in case.
Toolstation had 1m long SDS drill bits for £25 which were useful.
Need to level the garden up now

Didn't realise you could glass directly to the foil on a celotex/kingspan sheet. Anyone else done this?

Most “celotex” type Insulation has foil both sides these days I believe.
I had to check this too...looked through a few build threads to ensure I wasn’t being dumb

Yes, if you fibreglass onto the foam the stuff used to put the glass on can react with it and melt it

Glassing done. Not that I’ve got anything to compare it to but it looks pretty good to me!
    Ace job by Bob Hart

Tapatalk now won’t let me insert photos for some reason.
    Any clues anybody?
