These are 100% foamed ceramic I’ve had manufactured in Europe. No rubbish in these bad boys. The size is “standard” to fit the mouldings we already have but we could do all sorts of sizes given the right numbers.
I’ve been trying for 4 years to get someone in the UK to make something but nobody was interested as they think the market is too small whereas I actually believe it’s pretty big. This stuff could be used in Marine aquariums for example.
It’s also 80% porous whereas most “Bakki” style media is only 40%.
The Chinese stuff (designed for filtering molten aluminium) contains phosphates which makes them unstable in damp/humid/wet constitutions which is why a similar expensive American product (which is grey) has been known to fall to pieces.
And this stuff isn’t “Rio”, that’s from China/Taiwan. Completely different composition.
I’ve no 100% accurate way of calculating the surface area but doing some basic maths using a 2mm diameter sphere (5 in 10mm) I reckon that’s 3768m2 of surface area per cubic foot of media. K1 I believe had 800m2 per cubic meter.
No idea what the surface area of Bakki stuff is but it’ll be st least 60% less than this.

Are they MarinePure blocks ? Used the same way as Liverock in a marine system to help with the denitrification process

Interesting BCC will be good to see how this stuff performs. Im guessing you have it in a shower style format going by the pics? Or will it be submerged?

Playing with them in a shower type situation but nothing stopping them being used submerged with air.
I’ll probably stick some in the back end of my bio chamber “Eric” style

Cheers Jon, nice to see you today mate. Rory hasn’t eaten all the biscuits so plenty left for my visit to your place next week.
Just need a decent electrician now, do you know one?

Will have to check the garden over as well as sometimes it resembles a scene from the film The Killing Fields. Just with animals not people after the cats have been out all night!!!
