Lol, letís just say, I was expecting some gloating so wasnít exactly surprised.
Water off a ducks back, I could have kept quiet and pretended everything was fine however fessing up that the structural integrity of the pond wasnít sound will hopefully ensure nobody ends up in similar circumstances.
Yes, itís inconvenient and itís going to cost a fair wedge to correct however, compared to a lot of problems people suffer with in general life itís pretty insignificant and I count myself very fortunate that I can afford to put it right (with some ďman mathsĒ)

If the PM was sent at around 3 am, it was either someone that was Brahms and Liszt or maybe in another country like the USA? Sounds like Donald Trump is reading this thread

Hey Scott, the builder went incommunicado before Christmas so left to my own devices it appears.
I have however had a massive brainwave and thought about casting everything above ground in reinforced concrete. This potentially means I can leave the fibreglass/insulation in place and just shutter with ply behind it ten use some props to keep it all nice and vertical. I have a contact for someone who could sort this for me, I've just been a little busy with other stuff and haven't got around to ringing the fella yet.
Glad to see yours is all up and running nicely mate, will have to pop round for a catch up soon...and to yours Frim

Jeezo, you will have to give me his name so I can avoid him in future!! Yea sounds good, I saw a video of some polish guy cast his pond in concrete and it looked spot on at the end, not sure what wood he used but it left a grain imprint on the concrete then he just painted it and it looked first class. Take it you are going with the wooden cladding again tho? Yes it seems to be doing ok, your welcome round anytime mate

Sounds like a plan. I think pouring concrete around the outside would work fine. You mention reinforced, were you thinking rods or road matting? Road matting mesh set 50mm off the face of the existing split block wall and then ply stuttering 50 mm off the matting giving you 100mm thick reinforced concrete outer face would work well and easier than rods to hold in place. And topping that, belt and braces is if you reduced the height of the exiting outer block wall by 100mm you could shutter up over top of the blockwork and create a concrete ring beam. Not really necessary, but it would tie it all in nice.
You could use Galv frame ties or L brackets fixed to the outer face of the block wall and then wire the road matting to that to keep it in the centre of the poured concrete.

Righto, Iím quite an advocate of not over engineering things and when I discussed the various options regarding wall construction with my builder I let myself get talked into using trenchblocks for the walls with some stainless rods resin anchored in to the corners for some added strength.
(My precious pond was hollow block filled with rebar and concrete).
Anyhow, woke up this morning and noticed the pond level had dropped about 4 inches so immediately legged it to the garage to investigate the inevitable leak however, all was fine expect the level in the drum and bio chamber was very low too...hhmmm...stumbled to the pond (still in my dressing gown) to the sight of this

To say Iím gutted is an understatement, Iím also surprised but not as surprised as I should be given the blocks have failed in a similar way to the other one that failed recently even though theyíre only 4 courses out of the ground.
Oddly enough the area that gave me the real worries when the shell was built was round the window so I put some steel straps round that along with some additional rods, thatís also probably 3 courses above ground and is fine.
I think the fibreglass can be patched up but Iíve no idea what to do about the 2 walls that are knackered.
I need some time to reflect on this and discuss with the builder how we might affect a repair and at whoís cost.
Iím also eating a massive slice of humble pie as I was quite an advocate of trench blocks.
Could quite easily jack it in now to be honest.

    Going for another cry now

crikey another failure, gutted for you bigcarpcahser

is it simply using the wrong blocks thats caused it, or has the base or footing / foundation moved?
