Finally getting rid of the temporary pond
Hi all,
I bought my first house 3 years ago nearly with the better half and the first job was to dig the temporary pond, and it's finally time to sort it out
The new pond will be 6" x 11" x 5" or 6" deep
Fibreglassed
Hopefully a window at the end facing the house
Not to sure on filtration at the minute will have to see what funds will allow

The hardest part was already done along time ago with the help of a digger I would like to have gone deeper but the water table around here is less the 3" down
My bottom drain finally arrived last Saturday after loads of hassle from the company I ordered it off. IMG_1790.JPG
I've read on here always test your joints and I'm glad i did I had a slight leak on the bottom of the 90 so that was sorted and set in place IMG_1791.JPG
Put the membrane in to help stop the water table soaking up in to the bottom of the pond and the pulled the mesh up in to the concrete as I was pouring it Saturday afternoon.
Haven't got any pictures of the concrete in but I'll take some tomorrow when I'm hunping the first 200 blocks round
I'll keep posting as I go and I'm sure I will have questions to ask but that's all for now

Thanks for the nice comments
Got home from work late today so couldn't be bothered to start moving concrete blocks.
Here's the pond as it sits now IMG_1793.JPG
Hopefully get the walls Saturday if the rain hold off that is anyway
Can anybody recommend the best place to get pipe from for returns and things and also a skimmer?
Thanks

Had a few hours on the pond today
Got it up to ground level then backfilled with concrete all mixed in a wheelbarrow
Will be laying the blocks flat from now on, should get a few courses done tomorrow morning.

Today's efforts forgot how much cement laying blocks flat uses up spent more time mixing then actually laying
Got about 3 more course on the highest point and that will be the height should be just over 5 ft deep

blockwork looks good, was it easy to square them up and level them, just trying to think ahead for when I get to that stage on my build. what ratio of sand/cement and water are you using for the mortar?

Thanks all
Wow that's a lot of technical terms haha
Is infinity the one with no support across the top?
Steve to square it I've got a big square I used to set it out just started at one corner and worked my way around, you could peg it out with strings and measure the diagonals and all sorts if you wanted to be really precise, as for the mix I used 3 building sand 1 cement below ground and 4-1 above ground and for the water I just kept adding abit until it was how I like it.

Didn't get home from work until late so only had an hour on the pond tonight
You can see the window reveal start to take shape now
Can any give me an advice about returns what size and where to put them I think thinking far left and bottom right hand side? Does it matter if 1 run is longer then the other? And what sort of depths should they be? A lot of questions there but would appreciate the help.

The build is looking great.
What filter are going to use and will the returns run off separate pumps?
I put my 2 returns at opposing ends and opposing sides. Both on separate pumps but pipe run length is the same due to bends.
Most pumps have 1.5 inch fittings so I've gone 1.5 in and out of the pump and then stepped up to 2.0 for the return pipes.
My returns are just below ground level so that they are out of sight, roughly 2.5ft below final water level and 3ft from pond floor.

Thanks richard
I'm not sure on filters yet I had a easy pod on the old pond I'll be using that but I will need something else aswell just not sure what. Would one pump not be enough to do 2 return lines? I think I'll go 2 inch then on the pipe work in he same sort of place as you that was my original thought just wanted to make sure.

That's looking really nice Joe. I am a little worried for the flower bed though, does it know its days are numbered?

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
