Ok I was going to build a shed to house the filters and bits so will have to look at how I'm going to do that and also making the base waterproof too

Hopefully I'm ordering the block and building sand today to get started on the build. I'm ordering 7 pallets of blocks and 2 jumbo bags of building sand hoping that should be enough. I also need to get the cement for the slab ordered will 8" be deep enough or do I need to go deeper

blocks and sand ordered waiting for delivery date, will get the pipework ordered next week when I get paid, get that put together and cut the rebar then I can order the concrete for the slab. Cant wait to start actually building something and seeing it start to take shape.

Just received this from the people I ordered my blocks and sand from not impressed luckily I've got to get the pipework and slab done first. Something sounds a bit strange will have to monitor my account to make sure the refund comes back

Apologies Steve since we last spoke we’ve had a major hiccup with our transport and this effects specifically your delivery area.

Therefore I won’t be able to fulfil your order and have processed a refund. This should be back with you in the next 3-5 working days.

As Anne said, shop sround Steve as i did on my build, its surprising the difference in the prices on blocks etc,i got free del which is a bonus and my blocks were cheap cant remember the price.
Sounds like you are out of the area for delivery.
Remember you are the customer haggle with them if poss worth a try.

Thanks the place I bought from were from eBay which worked out £70 less than b and q so almost a pallet of blocks free. Have looked around but can't find many deals at the moment. Will have another look once I get the refund sorted but may have to go with b and q

I would say b and q would be pricey, have you tried the local builders?

I have heard there is a shortage of blocks and roof tiles in the country whether its got better i dont know.

the likes of B&Q are great if in a rush for something and shopping after 6pm, but you need a real builders yard to get sensible prices, they have a trade counter sure, but how often do you see their trucks dropping loads to build sites? screw-fix, part of the same group and sells a lot of the same stuff and is a lot cheaper.

think my blocks came from a mix of bradfords and kellaway, sand wickes had a odd deal where it was cheaper in small 20kg bags than bulk bags from any one, so i got a very large number of them dropped and walked up the garden, dont be put off paying for delivery, since unless you have a truck or a car your happy to rag you will be paying for delivery in one way or another, best way to save if you have the space to securely store is get it all on one order. I wasted some thing like 20 bags of cement as i got the cheaper paper bagged ones and not the weather bags and then had a 2 month job and returned to a pile of stepping stones inside the workshop where the humidity set them solid, so order what you can use right away if storage is an issue as theres not often deals on it

Thanks I'll have a look around and see what's about maybe I'll swerve b and q and the likes for now until I can find a better alternative. I was going to buy the cement as and when I needed it to stop it getting wet and going off as now the nights are short building will be a weekend job

Just finished the block and brick on my pond....Selco are much more reasonable and close to you at Lakeside. Bought 2 jumbo bags of building sand, 100 block, 600 brick and 6 bags of cement for £580. All delivered on to my drive. They replaced any brick that had broken or cracked on the pallet without protest.
