Thanks, I'll run 4 inch up and then reduce to 2 it will only be a short run maybe 2-3 foot, i also forgot about the UV which i've got sitting in the garage. As is typical now the patio is signed off its too cold to go out and finish it off so will need to wait for the warmer weather. I need to get back on top of that and completing the pond so that i can get it all cycled and get fish in this year although ill have to pump out the rain water thats currently sitting in the bottom of the pond before i fill it back up again.
i've been looking at equipment during lunch today, im thinking of getting a aqua forte 20000 variable pump for my system would this be ok or would i need the 30000 pump. I'm also unsure which air pump i'd need for my 2 BD's so any advice on these would be appreciated. i have 2 BD so do i go for an air pum on each incase of failure or 1 pump to power both and hope that it doesnt fail. I've seen the matsuko switch boxes, if i get one id just get a normal one couldnt see a need for a timer unless im wrong, how do these work in terms of warrenty with the goods wired into them, i'm assuming most electrical items would come with a moulded plug which would mean butting them off to hard wire, again i'm not sure as ive not looked at any of the equipment i have purchaed so far.
Isn't the aquaforte a more expensive rebranded Jebao?

Id say just one air pump - unless your failure happens to be in the middle of a heat wave it really wont be an issue to have the pond air off for a day or two. If you have a moving bed filter the pump on that is more critical in many ways - I keep a spare pump in stock just in case.
Thanks I run jebao pumps on bot of my marine tanks never had a problem with them so will have a look at them for the pond, what size would I need still a 20000? If I go for 1 air pump ate there any recomendatios so that I can have a look.

I went to the local dealer today and ordered my air pump so will be picking that up at the weekend. I've decided to run my skimmer line separate and over the roto shower I have in the garage, this means running 2 pumps and 1 for each return pipe. Originally I was going for a 20000 pump to run the whole system, what should I now run in each line

im looking to order my pumps next week when i get paid, i'm looking at 2 options a 15000 for the skimmer and shower line and then a 20000 for the sieve, bead and UV line or a 10000 for the skimmer and shower line and a 20000 for the sieve, bead and UV line. the only reason im lookin at a 15000 for the skimmer and shower line is that the inlet and outlet is 2 inch rather than 1.5 inch, does this matter there is only £20 difference in the price of the pumps so i'm not too fused either way. think these are the last main bits of equipment i need then some pipework and connections to plum it all together and start it up.
well the pumps had to take a back seat this month as i forgot i had a holiday balance to pay :( but i should be on for the end of the month. I now have my air pump so it just these and the pipework left to buy i'm hoping in order to fill the pond and start cycling. copings still need to be purchased but that can be done after the pond is filled.
i've tried to get hold of a friend of mine who is a sparky and will be conecting all of the electrics up, he's asked me to run the cable from the consumer unit to the shed so he can connect at each end but i cant get hold of him at the moment to find out what cable i need to buy and run. the complete run is about 110-120 foot and will be run in trunking under the patio and along the fenceline. is anyone able to point me in the right direction? do i need armoured cable as the cable will be protected in the trunking or can i get away with normal twin and earth cable? how thick will the cabling need to be at that length?
i've been advised to put a skimmer guard over my skimmer but when i had the pond glassed i had the skimmer glassed in so i no longer know where the screw holes are. could i just silicone the guard in place with some ct1 or do i need to try and drill through the fiberglass and hope it doesnt leak.
could you not make a guard that hangs over edge of pond so you can remove if you want,my old small square skimmer i used a square plastic grate cover from wick abdout £2 and just siliconed it on,ct1 would work though, andi
Hadn't thought of that will have to look at my options my shed wall has been built that end but I may be able to do something before I stick the coping stones on

If you could get some plastic or 316/304 stainless you could bend it to hang on side over copings so easy to lift off. Andi
I've finally found some coping stones that I like, I'll be counting up how many I need tonight and placing the order tomorrow and then should be able to pick them up some time next week. That means weather pending I can get them fitted next weekend and that will be another job ticked off. just the pump, plumbing, electrics and sealing the window to do then before I can fill it up. the coping stones are made of granite will they still need sealing or do I leave them unsealed and when I lay them I take it I use a normal morter the same as when I laid the blockwork, do I butt them up to each other or leave a gap and fill with morter.
Does anyone know the diameter of 1.5mm SWA cable. My mate has worked out I need to run 2 lots of this for the length of run and the appliances that will be run on it but I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit both runs in the 25mm tubing I've laid under the patio

I did wonder if I would get the cable down there can see this being a nightmare

You would get it down provided the run was straight and and bends to the surface are gradual, make sure you have a draw rope and the cable is tied on well, you will also need two people, one pushing and one pulling
I've used none armoured cable for my pond, I'm using the tubing as the mechanical protection and it's also under slabs, so I don't see the point in using swa

today's a good day my wife has been listening to what pumps I was looking to buy and ordered them for me nice little surprise at work today. I received my grade today for my first assignment at uni and somehow managed to get graded in the top band. lets hope the collection of the coping stones tomorrow and the plumbing over the weekend all goes to plan
