Depends what temp the moving koi are in Gray,if they are slightly colder then ok but if they are warmer then they wont like it.

Also bear in mind the higher the temp the quicker the oxygen gets depleted from the bag whilst they are being transported!

Like everything to do with koi, it's all a fine balancing act.

I think you'd be fine moving them at 13 to 14C if temps at both ends are a good match, and you try not to warm them up too much in the car.

the fish will adjust faster than your filter, so aim for what's best for the pond as a whole

    Cheers Bowsaw & John.

I’ve got 10 Koi to move in total. My plan is to move 1 in first (from Notts) and wait for a bit. Let things adjust and I’ll keep an eye on things.

Then I’ll move two from my Mum’s, same again, watch over for a week or so.

Then I’ll move 4 from Skoosh. Ditto above.

And finally move the final 3 from my Mum’s.

Hoping this staggered move allows the filters some time to keep up somewhat.

Agree good plan mate. As the saying goes. Thats the way to do it.

This is the first year. I have had no problems with my fish mate. During winter and just after.
So i believe. It has took over 2 1/2 years to get over new pond syndrome and my pond and filters to mature. With the amount of fish i have. On my setup.
It will be great to see some photos
Mate. Of your fish in the pond.
I bet your getting excited now.
    I would be.

Yes Fred, I’m getting proper excited now. It’s been building up to this for nearly 18mths now!

And the weather is warming up so it’ll be great to sit with a cold beer after a hard day of graft at work or on the house and just relax watching the fish cruise around.

What with a few Goldies in there already, some Koi from Skoosh, my own Koi and maybe a couple from John1 (plus my impulse purchase from a guy in Notts!) I’ll have a decent fill of fish soon to gaze at.

My old man loved Ogons so that’ll be my focus for my stock as he’d have loved to have seen my pond full of them. My girls also love “Robot Fish” as they call them.

Just need the water to warm up so I can start to move them in. Gray's Pond Build Diary

While I’m on here, I need to pick up an oxygen bottle for the longer trips to collect the Koi.

Any ideas on the best place to get some from?

Ah, that looks good. Now, stupid question time!

How many bottles would I ideally need to blow up 13 mid/large Koi bags?

Do I just shoot some oxygen into each one to make the natural air somewhat more pure oxygen or totally fill them with oxygen and tie up after putting the fish and water in?

Hi Gray you will be ok with just air in the bags for around 2hrs. I've had a koi in a air filled bag for 3hrs (caught in traffic) without any problems & it was feeding within 20mins. Oxygen wouldn't hurt but it's not critical. Double bag them too. They send koi from Japan in bags so they will be fine. Make sure you get large bags

Agree with koinewbie though I have only gone about 1.5hrs with air only and they were fine.
Though to answer your question Gray watching dealers they deflate the bag then fill with oxygen right up.
I wouldn't know how many bottles but if your doing it in stages then get one and see how you go.

    Morning all,

I have noticed two of my Koi having a little flash every now and again. They’re not doing it frequently but if I watch for maybe 30mins I might see one of them do it.

Seems to only be two of them at the movement.

I test the water every few days as standard and latest results from Sunday are as follows:

    KH - 5
    GH - 8
    PO4 - 5
    NO2 - 0.1
    PH - 8
    NO3 - 0.1
    NH3 - 0

To me, nothing seems amiss with the parameters but do let me know if I’m missing something!

So regards the flashing, does anyone have any guidance on what could be causing this and what I should investigate?

Final note, I run the air all through the late evening and overnight and tend to leave it off during the day - 8am until 6pm.

My fish don t like the air off mate.
They attack the dome. As in bodily
    Flashing.
Try leaving the air on for a couple of days and see if there is a differance
    In the flashing.
If its the same. There flashing. Net them and do scrapes.
Also after feeding you sometimes get fish flash. As ammonia slightly alters. And more sensitive flash
For a little while and once the filters do there job they settle back down.
The only thing i can think of. After that. Is scrapes and microscope.
