Cheers John, seemed a simple thing to install so I thought I’d give it a go. Should help during winter to turn the air down a bit was my thinking.

I also have no idea how the EA75 will perform with the dome. Don’t want my pond looking like it’s on the boil!!!

Cheers Fred. I have come to enjoy doing a bit of pipework now! It was my nemesis before but I quite like it now.

Just the skimmer line to pipe up and then that’s all the filtering done. Gray's Pond Build Diary

Can’t actually believe it myself! It’s taken an absolute age to get to this point. It’s weeks now vs. months as it usually was. Gray's Pond Build Diary

Gray - Get yer finger out!

I have two of the Matsuko switch boxes and they are great. Having read that the box hinge can "go" with constant opening and closing I decided to permanently extend every one of the connections out with waterproof cable and on to a panel with separate connection boxes on it. My connection boxes are a bit of an overkill due to their physical size but when I change something I never have to open the Matsuko box and fiddle about with the tiny connectors which also seem a bit flimsy and would fail in time. Keeps it looking neat as well. The box covers on my Matsuko's are hinged at the top and fall down so you are always pushing it open to get into the connectors when you are working on them.

Ha, I'm trying Kenny! My wife keeps giving me other jobs around the house to do like building a utility room for one example!!!

Good points about the Matsuko box, I'll keep that in mind and if I do find myself opening it regularly (hope not) then I'll tap the cables out to some separate boxes too.

I have come up against one small issue in that I have 6 devices to run off the box and only 5 ports. Thinking I might combine the two air pumps on to the same line in the box and then drop an isolator outside the box for each pump.

    Gray,

You will find yourself opening it regularly - best laid plans and all that! And then when the hinge breaks.........!

A simple waterproof on/off switch (pair) would do for your air pump feeds. I have two Matsuko boxes to give me plenty of spares and keep things tidy, one was originally just the on/off's with no digital display thingy which is cheaper. So basically I have wired all ten connections out of the Matsuko's and into waterproof connector boxes.

Just ordered a two gang outdoor switch for the air pumps. That’ll work nicely. Thanks!

Think I’ll be looking at strengthening the Matsuko hinges. How did you do yours?

    Gray,

I didn't. By extending all of the connections outside of the box I never need to open the box again - ever! I extended mine to a connection box for every outlet (overkill, one big box per Matsuko would probably suffice), handy though when one of my Matsuko's went faulty with no output whatsover. The broken Matsuko went back almost pristine so there was no question of being hashy with it.

So here's one for ya'll - a suitable cover for the filter house. The image shows the dimensions.

Originally I had thought I'd go for a wooden frame and then build into it a decking-style finish.

Doing some calcs on the weight of the finished piece it was going to be stupidly heavy. So much so that I'd be looking at installing gas pistons of some sort to help raise it up. Overkill...

I then looked at polycarb sheet to see if I could create a decent looking yet lightweight cover. All the polycarb sheets just looked like a crappy car port. So nope to that one.

I'm leaning towards maybe a wooden frame boarded over and then fibreglassing on top of it. Once the glass has cured, removed it from the frame (template) and this would give me a pretty rigid filter cover. Still not keen on the idea though.

I want it to be fairly secure because whilst we live in the sticks and don't have any issues with people nicking stuff I do want the peace of mind that it's lockable even if it's not bullet proof.

    Any ideas?

I am looking at exactly the same issue for my filters. The solution I have been thinking of going with is the double skinned polycarbonate which is about 9/10mm I think. Used some to make a lean to greenhouse about 20 years ago and have had no problems with it. Originally I used the surrounds and stuff that came with the polycarbonate attaching it to a light wooden frame which I think would do a good job to make it look professional. Seems now to come in different colours.

So...the day has come (well, tomorrow) when Dave Arnold glasses the pond.

Temp structure is up, no rain in sight and the pond is ready.

Window frame is in and the glass is arriving next week.

Looking good for having the puddle filled shortly after. Just my luck that a hose pipe ban will come into force just after!! Gray's Pond Build Diary

I do feel for Dave Arnold as it’s gonna be hot in there tomorrow. Poor chap.

Although I’ll be digging an 18” x 15ft trench for an armoured cable so I’m not too sure who’s got the rough deal...

Will put some post-glassing pics up tomorrow night.

As my late Dad always used to say:
