I am fine thanks Ray,my current temp is 7 deg and they are still after food but only getting a small bit.
An Ashp is a good way to go so I believe but I don't heat in the main pond only in the grow on which is at 18.5 deg and will keep it at that till mid Feb then drop it down to ambient.
I have a few to get rid of in March/April as I have far too many but it is hard as love them all.
You have done yourself proud Ray with your pond and you havnt cut any corners, with the drum and shower hope it stays well for you.John

As the weather has improved I thought I would take the opportunity to swap out my pump for a new DM Vario. I immediately noticed a damp patch below the existing return pump. On closer inspection, it appeared that I had a slight drip coming from the rubber union on the outlet side.
I gave the boot a little squeeze and to my amazement it separated at the join where the jubilee clip ended. Needless to say the water came peeing out apace. I isloated the valves at the pond side and the pump while I removed the boot. This was brand new and installed mid July last year! In the photo below you can see the top of the rubber has "crazed" and failed. Thelower half looks solid and as it should.
Had I not seen this and it failed completely, my pond would have emptied to about 12 inches from the floor. I checked all the others and they seem ok but I am paranoid now, so I'm going to get a pvc union and pipe it in properly. That was a disaster waiting to happen.

Hi Rayman,
enjoyed reading your project, John put me onto your thread as it is as he thought going to be similar to my one that i evisage, being a complete newbie to the game i am trying to gather as much information before i spend 1p on anything, i will be going down the preformed fg tank route as i do not have the skill level or space to build, unfortunately i cannot see how i can avoid hiring in a crane to lift the tank over the house as it will be to heavy to lift round from front to back, more cost! your overall finished project looks fantastic, great job, kind regards Steve.

Hi Steve, thanks for the kind words. I never came across the EZ Pond units until I was way down the line with mine or I would probably have gone down that route. My garden is also pretty small and with hindsight, I made the right call with the size of mine. I was lucky enough to be able to remove a fence panel and slide mine through the gap but it was still a struggle. If you have restricted access then unfortunately you will need a crane. I'm looking forward to following your progress. All the best.

Bit of decent weather these past few days means I was able to collect 2 fish I purchased at Queni's winter event. Still keeping the covers on for the most part given the big overnight temperature drops we are still getting. I have 1 more sanke to pick up in June, as it arrives from Japan tonight and has to go through quarantine. Pic with no 8 on it.

Earlier in my thread I mentioned a failed rubber boot that was just a few months old. I did a little inspection again the other day and have found another one. It seems I may have bought a batch of poor quality items. They are all 1 1/2 rubber connectors. I have replaced them with new ones as I wasn't comfortable risking them failing completely.

Here we go again.....my pond build Mk 4
Nice fish ray i like QK myself too, its a long drive for me but well worth it.
Them rubbers dont look up to much cop mate. They dont really look like the ones i use either (hardly any thickness to them by the looks)
That one above looks like its been under some pressure and has warped out of shape? Where was it in your system mate? Ive got them on my pump outlet sides and had no issues whatsoever but theres little pressure really as its an open ended system.
The only place i did have an issue was on my spray pump outlet a few years back. It expanded like a balloon when the pump kicked in and eventually split but it was a cheap one i had used on that, since replaced with a decent thick one its been fine.
Hopefully you have caught them all in good time though mate and i don’t blame you for replacing them.

Hi John. I can't actually remember where I got them from but I did buy from several different places, although these 2 were bought together. That much I do remember. They have not been exposed to sun at all as they are under the filter cover.

Hi Lee. This one was also fitted to a pump outlet. The first one that failed was on the inlet side of a gravity fed line from the bio chamber. Neither were exposed to the elements. They are obviously both from a dodgy batch but it made me check them all. These appear to be the only 2 crap ones.
