The pond looks great, and the rendering looks amazing. well done.

How did you find rendering the filter house to get a smooth finish?

    Hi Feline
Thanks for the information of the
balustrade posts. I have emailed the company for a quote.
What height Perspex did you fit into the posts?
    Regards
    Peter

Getting the finish was relatively easy, I had more trouble getting the K-rend to stick to the wall in the first place. Hand mixing bag by bag with a paddle mixer the trowelling it on is so slow it's hard to finish off a whole wall at once so it's all ready to scrape back simultaneously. The pros use a spray pump and can do in 5 mins what takes me all day

I asked for 26cm high posts and he made them for me. They are not cheap at £40-50 each depending on if corner or end one, but they are marine grade stainless and look nice.
The perspex is 10mm thick clear from Perspex® Acrylic Cut To Size Perspex Sheet UK
I ordered it with the 20mm radius corners.

I can sleep soundly knowing my fish can't jump out with these on so I thought it worth the cost. It's easy to remove the panels if you want to net fish etc.
Looks fantastic, I thought about doing something similar with the glass/perspex but knew it would be too expensive, as the garden/pond had already bankrupt me. Having seen yours, it's very tempting though, I hate having the ugly net on mine. How wide are the largest perspex panels?

    Hiya Peter and Pointy,
The perspex panels are 24cm high, 10mm thick, and the longest one that spans the pond window is 2.1m long.
Whilst it can flex a little bit forwards and backwards it doesn't move in the wind and is plenty strong enough to stop a jumping koi. Most of the other pieces are about 1.4m long. I bolted down the balustrade posts first then measured for the perspex so each panel is made to custom measurements with polished edges.

    Thanks Feline,

I have come up with Pointy's poor man version.

I can get a pack of 8 glass clamps on Fleeybay for £12 ( admittedly they are 304 stainless , not 316) and I would need 32 of them. I use the 6" pergola posts for the corners and simple screw the clamps to the inside edges. As my pond is 3.6m x 3.4m, I could get away with a single post in the middle of each side, a cheap solution is to use decking posts @ about £10 each. Then it's just the cost of the perspex or glass. This would leave a strip of decking, 6" wide between the glass/perspex and the pond though. I would hope that if a fish did jump out and land on it, it that it would flip itself back in.

Any particular reason you went for perspex rather than glass?

Hi Feline, Pond really does look great, I’m just in the middle of giving mine a little revamp and was wandering what colour you have painted the walls of the pond, and what brand of paint was it?
Thinking of upgrading to a drum and bio,any thoughts good or bad on your setup?

    Cheers, Ian

Hiya, it is Ivory K-rend. No paint. You can pressure wash this (gently).

    My setup is working well.
The only issues Ive had so far are:

-Not being able to max out the flow of my Flowfriend pump without overflowing the lower spigot tray of the shower. Really have no need to run it that fast anyway so not a big deal, but bear in mind when designing this kind of setup there will be a maximum.

-Bypass bungs in my drum dont seem to be UV stable and will go brittle and split every couple of years requiring replacement. Not a big deal as Coastal sell them pretty cheaply. Am working on a fix for this involving bonding a circle of pond liner to the bung on UV side to protect it.

Mine is from Absolute Koi (the Ultraskim Ultraskim - Pond Skimmers - Absolute Koi) , it has a 3" outlet pipe which is ideal for a gravity fed setup, and also has a built in pond overflow.

I haven't even started to build my pond yet, im still in the planning stages.

I think I will be getting perspex rather than glass.

Having said that the balustrades and perspex look quite expensive and I have a big outlay for the actual pond so depending on how the budget stretches I think I will be putting a net over the pond initially and then doing this a little bit down the line.

    Hi Lara
What did you use to cap your walls. Are they tiles? Did you get them locally or online? Can you give me a link for them.
    Thanks
    Peter
