Hi Fred, I didnt want to continue on the other thread as you said you were going to change your grow on/ quarantine to a tricle filter.
I did that on mine this year and it works great, takes up less space as well, there are three stackable boxes of grog and the water goes over floss first to remove fines.
You could put yours on the return end of the tank just extend the pipe up and in,jobs a good one.
Hope you are all well.John

Hi john. Nice one mate. I can only stack it two boxes. Because of the hight of my shed roof. But as you have said mate. Thats what i plan on doing. As of now in my 2x 100ltr butts i have grogg in the bottom. Then jap matt. Then wool for fines.
I plan to put the grogg in the trickle shower with jap mat and wool. And replace it in the butts. With some other media. Also keeping japp matt. Hope your well mate.
As it is now. I am changing water on to much of a regular basis. Twice a week. I want to go to minimum once a month. But saying that the grow on fish are coming on great as in size. One is around 14 inch. And built like a barn door. And another one. 13 inch. And another 12 inch.
The others are about 8 inch. The 4 larger ones are going in the pond in the spring. So i will keep four in the grow on QT. I am only feeding once a day now. But a very large feed.
Gone in minutes. Four are realy greedy.
How is your drum . Mind you. You will know better when feeding.
You won t half see a differance mate. Hope the over half is fit and well mate

Two boxs would be ok mate you can get the stackable ones which lock together,if it was me i would only put the grog in with some floss on top, never really used jap mat so cant really comment on it.
Yours seem to be growing really well, have you got any heat on?
Drum going well but as you say Fred it is hard to tell as the flow is turned down for the winter but the summer will tell.
I have done my skimmer to 3ins then 4ins to drum was easier than i imagined but its not pulling hard at the moment.
My little ones in the grow on have done ok but have to move a lot on in the spring.
Other half still recovering from her back op,i am getting fed up with all this cooking and cleaning so hope she recovers quicker.John

cleaned my nexus 320 out yesterday. and put six air stones in the bottom of the nexus. i never realised how far of the bottom the main air ring is,
so emptied. all the K1 out using a net. good advice john 1. the last time i did this i put the k1 into barrels. this time the K1 went into bin liners. for me a lot better.
when putting back in to nexus not one piece of k1 went any where. more control on returning back to nexus.
i put a six tap manifold into the line running of a EA T- piece. and six air stones. on the bottom. plus the air ring. all running. WOW what a difference.
just finish of in saying what a very bad design the air ring is on the nexus. and i am running a 150 ltr air pump on my nexus.
i won t be as worried about crud on the bottom now.

Morning Fred,
Bit of a chore that cleaning job glad its working well for you Fred,i didnt use the main air ring for the media only for boiling the easy, think i had 8 airstones off a 80ltr air pump dropped right to the bottom and it boiled well and very quiet.
I drilled very small holes in the lip of the nexus where the air stones dropped and tied a piece of garden wire to hold the airline in place so it didnt move, lot better than the crap e/a one.John

Just come in after taking patch for his walk.Horrible job. Getting K1 in and out.
Good idea that mate. Drill holes.
They don t move though. As bought heavy airstones. I played for an hour putting air through each one individually. Full air blast. Your spot on the ea ring only boils above the ring. There was loads of k1 laying dormant. Working of the ring. But once them stones where put on the bottom. Everything moved. Brill

she's up at the window waiting........sixth sense me thinks, anyway enough of my prattling on and on and on. Take care.

i am pi---d of with myself. reason i have been paying for API test kit £24.00. mainly for the ammonia.
as we all know we do 8 drops x 2. so it runs out a lot quicker then the rest of the test kit. IE nitrite PH nitrate. so i have been buying full kit at that price just for ammonia.
as i have lots of ph nitrite and nitrate bottles.
i have only just found out i can buy API ammonia on it s own. sick as a parrot. money i have wasted because i ran out of ammonia only. and bought full kit. i looked on line last year and could not
find any on its own.
how it comes about my niece was around Wednesday. to look at my QT plus my grow on fish. she wanted to see how they had grown since she last eye balled them.
then she noticed my five test kit s and said uncle fred you go through a lot of test kit s don t you.( she works in the veterinary. at pets at home. )
so i said because of the bloody ammonia runs out to quick. so she said i will have a look at our site. they sell full kits but only ammonia strips. i said i only like the chemical tests
so she goes online again and found me some. i bought 3 lots of API ammonia. for the same price of a full kit. get in there.
if anyone interested its here https://www.pro-shrimp.co.uk/water-t...163000861.html
have a good day
