Are these koi?
Morning guys.
I am new to the forum and hobby, having just kept marine and tropical aquariums in the past.
I'm currently in the middle of a pond build. And a family member has given me 3 fish ready for when my pond us built.
He reckons 2 of them are koi.
COULD anyone confirm please
Thanks
Ryan

Can’t see it myself, most koi have mouths that ‘face’ down as they are bottom suckers sorry

They are the wrong shape for young koi, and dont seem to have the barbels that koi have either side of the mouth. They are goldfish IMO.
On the grounds of biosecurity its worth bring very strict with friends and family that you dont accept ‘gifts’. Your pond is not that large so you will only be able to choose a few koi for it- a lot of the fun of koi keeping is making that choice for yourself. Well I think so anyway!2016 new 6000 gallon pond

They look like goldfish to me, probably the comet variety, judging by the colour and tail shape. Nothing wrong with a few goldies imo. They make great QT buddies and are quite hardy in my experience.

Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
