    Otters

Hi, I wonder if someone can advise me please. My koi pond is netted for protection against herons which has worked. But I have received reports that an otter cleared out a koi pond in our village distance of about a mile away from my property. So I am now worried we may get a visit and I wanted to know what best protection can be used against otters please? Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Debs,I new of a breeder in S.Wales who had a problem with Otters,he had to put a fence round his ponds probably small mesh of an inch or so.

Doesn't look too nice but only way I know,if you cover your pond they could squeeze under somewhere.
Believe they make a right mess of the koi.

Hi John, thanks for getting back to me. I know they leave a real mess a bit like fox so I am told, go into a frenzy and kill maim everything! I’m probably being a bit too over zealous but want to be safe than sorry, I’ve had these Koi for years and they’re my babies! I’ve found a company online that make metal covers to order, probably will cost a few bob but in my mind it’s worth it! Debs

Not the prettiest, but the peace of mind is great.

Made in Stainless steed by Wire Mesh Fabrications.

They wanted a lot of money to powder coat them (£180 odd inc. VAT for each double section) so I had that done locally for £20
