As I haven't got anything to read my oxygen levels
What's a lot of air going in to a pond in terms of lph?
I know it depends on size
But mines 13850ish litres and I've split a 100lph pump to my nexus and bd
I've noticed a couple of fish flashing a minute a go
Especially our banana fish(kids named him,as badly bent for some reason)

That's a really hard question to answer, because oxygen enters the water in other ways than just the air pump. Pond turnover rate through the filters has a big impact, as do showers and to a lesser extent waterfalls. they increase the exposure of water to the 'surface area'. Actual pond surface area relative to depth also makes a difference, as does temperature.

My main air pump that feeds the bio filter is an 100 lpm one (air pumps measured in lpm not lph unless you have a teeny one!). However I also have a large Bakki shower on the pond, and 65lpm on the 2 bottoms drains (this isn't on all the time). On my 6000 gallons that is plenty of air but not excessive. My media rolls but not vigorously.

Trace the last few days i have been getting that black rubbery type algi. In my top pond. But not my bottom pond. It drops in there. But most stays in the plants. I have cba. To no affect. Thinking of cleaning upper pond out. How did you get rid of it.

    Thanks feline
Yeah sorry lpm as lph wouldn't be doing anything
I reverted back to the original nexus air ring instead of the 6 airstones yesterday seems to turn my media over a lot better

    CBA won't make any difference.

All the details here Freddy: T-Tip#8 How I cured Phormidium (Black Slimey Algae).

Probably too much DO and water movement in the main part of the bottom pond for it to get a hold .... but be careful ... it only takes a slight change in: amount of shade, aeration or water movement for it to bloom like wildfire.

If you have any probs or questions just give me a shout on the linked thread so you don't hijack this one ...

    Interesting read
i have only just got a Hanna tester and tested mine today ,it was 10 flashing out range ..so I guess it's quite high ,so I have turned my air off today and will test again tomorrow.
i do have two showers on my pond so must get good oxygen?

    Ph and air

you CAN NOT put a snorkel on an LR4 unless its a TD6 which you cannot get in the US. Not that you have one, but in-case someone with an LR4 is thinking of doing one... dont do it. It has a dual air intake and an unfriendly Can-bus system.

Well, technically they're all related to the words in the thread header.... just not quite the same context!

When you say you have your air etc on a timer, what do you all use? I want to put my BD air on a timer but not sure what to use outside.

Cheers for that and for the pics. Problem I have is my filter bay is outside and although covered it’s not waterproof/weatherproof.

No problem mate. I can t help you there only to say make your bay water proof. I get in enough trouble of frim on my electrics for leaving my socket covers always open. talk to frim on your electrics. he is an electrician .
and mine are all indoors. haha. can t you get some type of a plastic box to go over the electrics. on my old pond I never had a filter house or bay. everything was outside. all in plastic boxes. air pumps and electrics.
anyway hope you work it out lol. you can get them timers of fleabay.
