what cctv for pond and house

    Hi all,
Looking for a cheap one for round the outside of the house and of course the pond, seen on ebay / amazon chinese ones with four cameras name of Sannce for around £100 to £150.
Now i am hopeless with computer things so dont baffle me please, some are 720p and some 1080p and reading reviews the 1080p is better.
I want to record so i think i need hard drive,is that correct?
I am confident to fit it but not familiar with the makes etc, anyone able to help me or fitted similar lately, dont want to spend loads but want a decent picture.

    Thanks.

    John

If I was you I would invest a bit extra for a quality product like Swann, they may have some deals on now too. I got my 8 channel system from maplin.

I know Sony are considered to be the best lens but actual system i dont know

We have a camera system all neatly hidden inside the coving. Its not infra red but in our house it does'nt need to be as we have no light switches

I've just fitted one over Christmas, which i received as a gift.

Its the Ucam247 camera - and i'm so pleased with it.

    So - in short

It works wireless, just needs power.
Out the box - plug it into PC, with cable provided, set up the wireless, i.e. - select your WiFi and input your WiFi code, unplug it, and mount it where you want it.

Stick a Micro SD card in it if you want it to record alerts (128 card advisable).
It notifies me on my phone when it detects motion, and has night vision.
Can be viewed from phone, tablet, android phone, and pc.

    multiple cameras can be added.
And it comes in on budget - Amazon sell them - take a look.....

    Hope this helps.
    Rob

Yeah I made the mistake of getting a cheap one and it was rubbish and stopped working.

Not had any issues with my Swann system.

I'm looking for a set too at January bargain prices ...

"Hikvision" are well known by security companies for being the best value for money ... here's an up to date post on avforums.com (a good place for UK cctv advice) where a guy is currently searching for the best price on Hikvision equipment from authorized dealers.

Beware Hikvision gear from e bay or a mazon as apparently there are a lot of fake sets really cheap.

    Here is the post: https://www.avforums.com/threads/hom...hoose.2073937/

Swann get pushed a lot here in offers too ... but in the research I've been doing a lot of the pro installers have been consistantly advising to go for Hikvision instead ... the explanation seems to be that Swann is good "amateur" gear, whereas Hikvision is entry level "pro" gear but with a noticeable difference.

These are not my opinions though I'm still open minded ... I only need a couple of cams so I'm just looking for the best I can get for about £300-ish (I would like one to record audio too).

Just interested to see what kind of deal the guy in the link eventually gets.

I need to swat up more on different CCTV camera tech as at first glance it can look quite complex and the different lens focal lengths, wired/wireless etc.etc. are crucial elements for success and getting the best value for your money ...

I am no expert in this Andi, but reading up i think you still have to route a power wire to the camera,is 720p enough? I dont know mate, but on the net folk say you need 1080p for a decent picture, this is doing my head in i am no computer genius but i could fit one ok but its getting one good enough for a good price.

I know i will need power wires john, but as all cameras will be high up i can run these from the loft as i have plugs up there, apart from 1 over pond which will plug in filter shed,it does mean though that i dont have to run wires all over, hous and garden.also think 720 will be ok.as the cameras are hd themselves due to them being 1 mg pixel, not just as in a lot of deals ive seen where the cameras are older models and the recorder upscales the picture to hd.these normally list something in hd but also say 1000 tv lines or above or less, another headache for you lol, andi

John if you want a very good picture then you need a 4 megapixel camera or at least a 2 megapixel

the mega pixel means not a lot, its the image sensor size that is important along with the optics and the available light

you can have a 1 mp camera and a 25mp camera, both with same sensor the picture from the 1mp could well be better as there will be less "noise" in the image
