Interesting (but expensive) pond cover design

I'm not really posting this because of the shape, and the fact that it's a pool rather than a pond is irrelevant, since I believe they also make them for ponds, and the panels needn't necessarily be glass (I saw this linked in a ModernKoiBlog video), but because of the way this cover is built as a one-piece welded metal frame, and then raised/lowered on posts.

It's an interesting approach: Wie finde ich kindersichere Schwimmbadueberdachungen fuer einen Swimmingpool1 - YouTube

I like the idea of that. Summer pergola then winter covers all in one. WINNER!.

I've been trying to work out how the cover mechanism on the first one works, I've seen similar where the guy had a bunch of winches hidden up in a pergola, but this is much more elegant. As far as I can tell, all the workings are contained in the cover itself, and a cable is attached to the top of each pole. I love gadgets like this, now I've got to work on a cheap diy version.

I'm not certain, but you can certainly see some cables in the video I posted:

Getting each pole to move the cover at exactly the same speed must be an engineering achievement in itself, and made me suspect they may be using digitally-controlled stepper motors, probably in the box-section steel of the cover.

However, there is an English version of their website, which states:

"A simple control unit (with optional remote control) enables you to gently raise the cover up to a height of approx. 2.50 m (standard 2.00 m). The power for this is provided by a single motor which is attached to the framework and moves up and down with the cover. Our patented cable and pulley system guarantees smooth, quiet operation."

This has got me wondering if there might be some way to create some kind of linear rise&fall with gas struts (I don't mean hinged covers), or with telescopic posts of some other format, but it might not be viable.

It probably cost more than my entire pond, I'll have to stay with my current setup, I have a winch that raises and lowers a section of my cover. I can control it with my phone, and it will automatically open and close depending on temperature and wind speed. It's a little bit crude, but it's cheap and has proved reliable for the last few years.
